The biggest mistake you can make is showing up in New London on R-Day and thinking you’ll have “an easier time” or a less physically demanding summer than the “Big Three.”

Although the primary mission of the USCG is a humanitarian mission, it is by no means the Peace Corps. At all times, the US Coast Guard is a part of the US military. And the USCGA will be educating and training you to serve as a military officer.

Six or seven weeks of heat & humidity (and/or altitude) will make whichever one you go through the toughest.

They are all tough physically. Your best bet is to come in with a positive attitude and in the best shape of your life. If you’re looking for a shortcut, apply elsewhere.

Physically, all rigorous across the board. You can prepare for the physical challenges. Sometimes it’s the mental aspect that’s most exhausting.

I will second the mentally exhausting comment. My son said he’d go back to swab summer in a second sometimes. The balancing act of academics, sports and military obligations can get very overwhelming. Swab summer was physically rigorous, but son said that he slept much better not having to worry about tests, papers, etc.
