Which state should I become a resident of?

Thanks for the info on why and how Texas residency is an advantage for Texas med schools. (Finally, some good news about education in Texas. Don’t get me started on K-12 public school finance laws!)

Pyles: Not only do Texas medical schools give a decided edge in admissions to Texas residents, the tuition is incredibly low (including BCM which though a private school charges the same for Texas residents as the state schools charge).

The quickest and easiest way to become a resident of The Republic is to purchase a Homestead. Cattle are not required; any condo in foreclosure will do nicely. Depending on your residential college, you might have to go off campus your junior year anyway. With interest rates low if you can find a three bedroom and rent out two to other Rice students your net out of pocket to amortize a mortgage will be about the same as you would pay to share an off campus apartment. Then if you get into Baylor or UT Houston you won’t even have to move.
