After finding out more about my family's financial situation, i looked at my college list and crossed off what I deemed too expensive. I went from having mostly ivy's and other schools of that caliber on my college list to having ONLY my state college, because it is significantly cheaper already, and they give out athletic scholarships.

I really do not want to compromise so much like this. Which schools are prestigious academically and also give out athletic scholarships? Stanford is a perfect example.

Thanks guys

And, a side question, I heard that schools which are not allowed to give out athletic scholarships, like D3, find ways to help athletes out financially through other means, like merit scholarships (only if the athlete deserves it of course). Is there any truth to athletes having an edge with these?

To make your search easier…
Look up the schools that offer your sport at a varsity level–do that through a search engine and then
Cross that list with your expected major/program…you can do that by either looking up each school in a Big college book, or on the internet.
Take that list and go into their financial aid dept tabs.

I shoudl think sports scholarships are offerred to recruitable athletes. Your stats are important as are your GPA and SATs/ACTs scores.

Go onto the NCAA website and get your self logged into the clearinghouse for athletes.

If you are a senior, you are behind the curve, better get cracking, also ask your GC at your hs.
If you are a junior, your timing is perfect… get started now with your research etc.

Thanks a lot, and hopefully this helps other people out as well!
fogfog- I know it’s a little late, but I don’t think anyone will have already filled out their entire roster by now. Might as well give it a try!

Often the track recruiting continues well into the fall and winter. As athletes commit, openings often become available after the ED or early likely letters alter the rosters. The OP certainly may find schools needing sprinters and hurdlers, particularly ones with great academics.

I encourage iOp to send his or her stats out to many schools. Are you eligible for FA? Remember the top Ivies are need-blind and will meet all your need if you are accepted.
