Which tuition rate plan to select for NM

I have a son who will be attending UTD this fall on a NM scholarship. He received an email today asking him to select between the variable and guaranteed tuition rates before early August and that he’ll get only 1 chance to make this selection. I was leaning toward the guaranteed rate plan as the scholarship seems to match that, but was curious as to what other NM families are choosing especially given that we have 1 shot at this.

I don’t think my daughter ever got this email so she would be on the variable plan. She has been there for 3 years. The scholarship should cover both plans. I guess the reason they are asking is if something happens and they lose their scholarship which plan would you like to be under. In that case, I would pick the guaranteed plan as well because you would have a firm number. Most likely, this will not be an issue.

Thank you @GTAustin for your response. I think we will go with the guaranteed rate plan. Curious though if no one else got this question, or if it is such a no-brainer that I’m the only one needlessly worrying about!

Saw this on the UTD website
“Students determined to be eligible to receive a full university tuition scholarship such as the Academic Excellence, McDermott, National Merit or RA/TA scholarship or students receiving a state exemption that covers full tuition, will automatically be placed into the guaranteed tuition plan as they are not responsible for payment of their tuition. If you fall into one of the aforementioned categories, your tuition plan will be changed to the guaranteed tuition plan rate and you will not need to make a tuition plan choice.”

My NMS picked a T20 but UTD was his full pay safety and as much as I know, it was a guaranteed tuition plan for him as a NMS.
