Hi, I'm a rising senior. And I'm well aware I should have taken some SAT 2's earlier. Regardless, here I am...so, UVA wants ("strongly recommends") 2 SAT Subject Tests.

I would really like to take the SAT Reasoning Test again in November (3rd time) to get my M+CR up. Therefore, that would leave only October and December for SAT 2's.

Right now, I'm looking at Bio-E, Bio-M, French, and World History. World History was one of my strongest subjects in 9th grade; however, I'm not sure I remember much now. Also, World History is only available in December. Bio-E and Bio-M...I haven't touched Biology since 9th grade, but I've still got all my notes and two textbooks. And I'm not sure which Bio exam to take...I really don't want to take both. And French seems to be difficult, seeing as all the language ones are deemed difficult by non-native speakers.

*I haven't taken AP classes in Bio, French, or World; just honors for Bio I and World I and World II

And, I'm thinking of majoring in Business. Yes, I've considered the math ones, but I scored better on practice tests for the four I listed above.

So could some of you help me narrow down my list to two and tell me how to space out my testing this fall/winter?

Thanks!

Well for bio, you can’t take both bio E and M in one sitting - both tests have 80 questions total, of which the first 60 are identical and the last 20 are specific to either E or M. It really depends on whether you feel more comfortable with ecological or molecular stuff. And taking just regular / honors bio and then going for the SAT II is usually pretty difficult. But I don’t think bio really suits business majors.

I’m not totally sure what two tests you should take, but maybe broaden your scope a bit? French doesn’t seem too relevant either, and I don’t know about history. Try lit? Math really would be helpful; you still have lots of time to study.

You probably shouldn’t take French if you haven’t taken AP French. It’s not that you can’t get 700+ if you’re not a native speaker, you have to have studied it for a while. I got 730 on it, despite it being my third language, but I’ve taken the language for quite a few years + AP.

I agree with Aquawater98, since your school doesn’t really require a certain subject test, you’re probably good with a Math (since it’s very relevant to business) and round it out with something like World History (which I think is more relevant to business than bio).

OP-
what classes did you take last year?
you should take a subject test in an area you recently took a class in, NOT something you took in 9th grade. you should plan on taking the Math 2 subject test and a Humanities test, unless UVA doesn’t state a preference . Then take the tests in the areas you did well in recently.

Aquawater98 - yeah, I’m not quite sure which one to take… Well, I’m not really good at Lit. :C And math seems too stressful for me; I only got a 610 on the math section on the SAT reasoning.

MunCB22 - I suppose that makes sense, thanks.

menloparkmom - 11th grade, the only AP’s I had were AP Calc BC (STRUGGLED IN, and got a 1 on the exam) and AP Lang (got a 92, and a 4 on the exam). UVA doesn’t have a preference…
