Why would an international student with serious pre-med ambitions come to the US at all? US medical schools admit very, very few international students (less than 200 last year, I believe?) and are massively expensive (most will cost $250k or more since you don’t have in-state options, even if you could get admitted somewhere).

If you are serious about medicine, do it elsewhere and come here for residency, as most foreign born doctors do.

Assuming pre-med was just a whim, and you are serious about studying in the US, why are you considering those schools? How did you choose them? You realize, of course, that you will not receive financial aid from state schools, right?

Well !! I believe my scores are good enough to let me into a US medical school.
Moreover US is not my only
option .I am considering medical schools else where. US is just a backup plan. although state uni dnt offer financial aid they offer merit scholarships for int’l students. If you think these univ are bad then it would be more supportive if you give me better advice. Anyways thank you.

I don’t think you understand the medical education system here. It’s not like the European system where you can study medicine as an undergraduate. In the US, you can’t apply to medical school as an undergraduate. There is no ‘pre-med’ major. You do 4 years of undergraduate education (any subject), take the required science classes, take the MCAT and then, in your final year of college or university, you apply to medical school. If you don’t have a collage GPA of 3.6 or higher, and a high enough MCAT score, you will not be considered - and that’s if you are a US citizen. If you are not a citizen, you will probably not get a place even with those grades and test scores. This isn’t about being ‘good enough’ - this about the very careful rationing of medical school slots in the US. If attending medicine is important to you, then the US is not the right place for you to do your undergrad studies.

???

how would you know? You don’t have scores yet for med school admittance.

Besides, our med schools admit very few int’ls…many don’t admit ANY. The purpose of US med schools is to educate American doctors.

The few that do admit int’ls will demand that you pay all costs up front. There’s no aid or anything like that.

how much will your family pay for you to go to undergrad here.

Do you know if those schools on your list give merit to int’ls? If so, how much?
