Hey guys,
So I’ve got admissions from the following universities, but I have no idea whose offer to accept, help?
University of Washington-Seattle (Ranked 6th)
University of Wisconsin Madison (Ranked 11th)
Texas A&M University (Ranked 40th)
North Carolina State (Ranked 48th)
All of the above rankings are for Computer Science according to US Grad news. So where do I go?
Thanks!
For me it would depend on where you live. Since those are all public universities you’d pay out of state tuition which can really suck. But out of all of those I’d pick UW Seattle, great school!
I’m a US citizen living abroad right now, so tuition is not part of the equation! Yeah, thats what I’ve heard as well…thanks a lot!
Be sure to check on Washington’s admission policies to the CS major. From what I understand, it is not guaranteed and quite competitive. If that is a concern, then you might want to also consider your best guaranteed option.
Please pay close attention to what @sltxdad
His reasoning is exactly why I dropped UW from my list as well.
Direct Admission (DA) to Intl students is not available and hence I would have been entering the university as ‘Pre-Science’ and only if I maintain a set amount of grades, can I shift to CS later.
And if I don’t get those grades, well, my dreams of being a software engineer are killed instantly.
Woah…thats scary! So the other colleges on my list, do they provide guaranteed admissions or do they run on the same lines as well? Thanks a lot for the advice @sltxdad and @determined2300
Simply read your admission letter. If it says your major is Computer Science, then you have a direct admit to CS without any problems (most universities will do this).
For UW, if your admission letter says ‘Pre-Science’ as your major and school as ‘College of Arts and Sciences’, then you’re NOT admitted to CS. I would say you then research carefully the pre-requisites of getting into CS once you enroll.
If, your major says ‘Computer Science’ on your UW admission letter, then you’re good to go
Oh no…it says Pre-Science… Okay, so I’ve got a lot of research to do…thanks a lot!!! @determined2300
I’d pick the school that is strongest in your field and it looks like that school is UW. However, I also think Texas A&M is a good choice. Best of luck!
