Whining

Here is the deal. Everyone out there who is soooo scared of the big bad UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO needs to relax. Do any of you truly believe that out of 1000+ first year students, at least 50% are gonna wanna have NO fun in college?? PLEASE! All I can say about this social life stuff is that I will be going there next fall and I am absolutely commited to having the time of my life. I will work hard and have lots of fun (and by fun I dont mean extreme drinking, although I could do that if I so chose), as will I am sure most students. So sit back and relax. Stop asking silly questions like "is it hard??" Ofcourse it is hard! It is one of the best universities in the WORLD. Why would you go to college for an easy ride?? It is a waste of money if you DONT work your butt off. So please, if you enroll, have the attitude that I do. Go there, love it, or leave. Remember that this is only a one year commitment. From UC, you could transfer ANYWHERE in this country, and even outside of it. Thanks for listening to my rant.

Can I get an Amen?

Um...Shalom.

Amen.......

I already said this exact same message on around five other threads. So did others. With the same level of (deserved) exasperation. It's pointless to continue, so just stop posting on those threads and let foolish comments and questions bog down the commenters and questioners. I take Chicago's attitude: if you have to explain it or justify it too many times, do you really want the people to come anyway?

The "others" who said the same message must include me. If 8 out of 10 people ask "will I have fun there? are people there all nerds?" than they should realize that 8 out of 10 are looking for fun and the rest either smart enough not to worry or just don't give a dam. Good god, grow up you callow busters(no offense to anyone in particular).

Oh man...but does anyone else feel like they're getting in over their heads with Chicago's tough academics?

Nope. I love a good challenge (provided that challenge doesn't result in a 2.3 GPA).

There is a really good blog entry at this student's rarely updated blog that describes the social situation at the school:

It is the second entry for 10 May, right after the stuff about a Fanta commercial.
