White House Internship- Summer 2017

@dannyo95 I believe it is required for anyone being considered. By that I mean that it is possible for you to be a highly considered applicant, and then something in your Department Review forms to come up that causes you to be waitlisted or rejected. Therefore, I don’t think receiving the DR forms means you are definitely going to get the position, but it is obviously necessary in order to go further into the process.
So far (my interview was almost 2 weeks ago) I have not heard anything else back and have not been sent the DR forms.

@eed1418 That makes sense! I’d still assume they’d only give those forms to candidates they would be more likely to hire since it would be a real hassle to do for X number of applicants.

Do any of you know how many people applied?

Nope. Didn’t ask.

I understand it taking a few additional weeks to hear back about DR forms or additional department interviews, but I find it very odd that it has been almost 2 weeks and it seems that most people who applied the day before/day of the deadline have yet to hear anything back…

Those are my thoughts as well, @eed1418. Seems strange that none of us have heard anything.

DR forms were emailed today

DR Forms were emailed out to everyone who was being considered? Did you get an email saying that?

I haven’t gotten anything even though I was interviewed. I guess we can just wait for a week or so and see what happens.

Okay. It doesn’t seem like a ton of people on here have gotten DR forms. So maybe they are doing some sort of “rolling admission”.

From my conversation during my interview it led me to believe that the first interview is a general one, and the information from that, along with the rest of your application materials, are then forwarded to the departments you had shown your interest in on your application. From there I believe it is up to individual departments to decide if they are considering you and wish to send you DR forms and hold an additional interview if necessary. So if you haven’t gotten your forms yet I wouldn’t worry - some departments may be working quicker than others!

@eed1418 did they give you information about which offices requested the form?

Here’s what I know so far:

Both my friend and I applied on the 30th. I believe he applied the same day I did (not 100% sure). I applied as a long shot, but my friend should be an in. He worked on the campaign, personally got to meet Trump, knows current staff, etc. Also from a top 15 Uni. So far neither of us has heard anything yet. Has anyone who applied during the last two days before the deadline heard anything?

Seems the Obama Administration had summer deadlines a month earlier than the Trump Administration. Makes it tough when decisions are this late in Internship Offer Season…

Edit: I meant to address my question to @ahop95

Still haven’t heard anything at all. Submitted 3/28. A little worried…

Any idea if it’s easier to get the fall internships, since presumably people are in school? I’m open to resubmitting, since working for Trump is kind of a dream of mine.

I wonder if they were suddenly flooded with all the applicants who wanted to work for the WH but weren’t interested from 2009-2016, heh.

Hey guys, I applied on March 22 and haven’t heard anything besides an email saying final decisions would be in late April. I’m starting to assume I didn’t get it idk. Reading your experiences I realized I’m definitely lacking in a political background lol.

I would think that less people would apply for this administration rather than the last due to most people applying would be coming from colleges and university which tend to have a majority of liberals, and also seeing information and comments on social media about the internship that not many people see this as a positive experience for people.

I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m most likely not going to be getting an interview, which truthfully does surprise me considering my work with the campaign and other past experiences. Can’t help but wonder if it would be different if I would have submitted it a week earlier than I did. Pretty sure I’m going to apply again in the fall since this is something I really want.

@ahop95 I was thinking that, but there’s also the fact that liberals have had many opportunities to get involved over the past several years, whereas people on the right have not (at least on this level). So you might have had a situation where all of those people “build up” waiting for a change in administration, and now that that change has happened, the floodgates have opened.

Hey guys, new here, I applied a few weeks before deadline and had a phone interview with the White House, was told I would potentially be getting more information about a follow up interview and all that, and we would know sometime in April for sure. Was wondering what the DR form consisted of? I did not get one yesterday. Just hope it doesn’t mean since I did not get a form that I am no longer being considered.
