Guys, I’m a law grad too, and I have also been accepted, but I don’t think it’s possible to be over qualified for this opportunity. It’s going to be incredible, and I am sure we are all deserving, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t hundreds–thousands, even–of qualified and deserving people out there who got rejected. So maybe just a little less entitlement and little more moderation is in order. Half of this process is luck anyway, so us lucky ones need to appreciate the role that seredipity plays in this and stop acting like we are god’s gift to the white house internship. We are ALL fortunate that we got the job, no matter how many ivy’s we went to.

Hey all, I just got accepted into the Fall program and found this thread on google - looking for a little more information since the email was so short. I’m just finishing up as an undergrad, but it looks like the other acceptances on this board are leaning towards grad students at least? In any case, looking forward to meeting you all.

Still feelin like I’m probably the least qualified intern. Except maybe jdf. …No offense mate. Looks like it’s coffee duty for me and you.

SunnySanDiego: Thanks for that.

As I mentioned before…I was accepted. I am a recent graduate, with a BA in poli sci, internaitonal relations, and latin american studies. I was rejected from the summer program, so I made sure to put extra care into my essays this time around (I felt like my first ones were lacking). I was extremely involved in the campaign, working as an volunteer, intern, and staffer. However, I also have a long history of service - both internationally and here in the States.

I agree with SunnySanDiego, i’m sure that everyone who applied is qualified and no one is over qualified. I think they are looking for diversity in geographical location, schools, interests, etc. In the end - it may be a bit of a crap shoot. However, as I said before - don’t give up hope! I also feel that most people who got accepted, had interviews.

So, does that help?

For the record, I put that in there about being overqualified because I was worried that when people saw that JDs were getting accepted, they would think that people with BAs don’t have a chance, which isn’t true. But yes, it’s an honor to be selected and I’m happy to be joining others in the program.

If I may say, that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. It isn’t just the comments that people made about their self-perceived over qualifications that some found offensive. I believe its the overall cavalier attitude certain people have displayed towards this internship. A lot of people here put a lot of time into this, and were willing to make significant sacrifices to serve in the White House. The idea that people accepted into the program applied on a whim or out of boredom, did not have enough respect for the process to turn in their applications complete or on time, or don’t want to spend the time for the internship if it isn’t going to lead to a job…that is quite simply abhorrent.

That’s why I commented that the WH was probably NOT monitoring this board. I don’t think the same people that spent weeks sifting through applications and signed every email “thank you again for your commitment to public service” would have taken kindly to such jaded dismissal of the monumental gravity of this opportunity.

Hi,

I’m Filippo, i have been accepted for the WH Fall internships program too. I’m so excited, it’s a great opportunity…Congrats to those who got it and i hope that the others will try again to access this program. Best of luck to everyone…i’m writing here 'cause i want to begin to stay in contact with all those who got accepted…maybe we can start to know eachother guys and then meet in DC in september…i’m also looking for housing and if anyone knows something about that, please reply to this post and share informations…Actually, I live in Sicily (Italy), i’m attending my Law University, and from here it’s a little bit hard to search and find something, so please guys if you have some info let me know soon…

Thanks a lot and Congratulations again.

Paddington can you please add me to the e-mail list I will be a fall intern as well. I am in search of housing too… My email is sunnii17@aol.com

Hi,

I found this site by googling WH Internship program – Also a recent Law school grad and also will be a fall intern. Was reading previous posts and thought I should put my thoughts…

I sincerely doubt that whichever JDs posted about being ‘overqualified’ did not mean to be malicious or pretentious. Internships are usually restricted to those in school, particularly for Undergrads, and given the fact that these individuals are beyond that may suggest that they would more qualified for, say, an entry level or mid level job – a rare thing to come by in this economy. I sincerely doubt they mean to question the integrity of the program or have a sense of entitlement. Yes, it is an honor to be an intern, and there is such as thing as being overqualified for it, but that does not mean they aren’t looking forward to the opportunity.

Look forward to meeting you all this fall, but given the tone this board has gone, will probably be the last time you hear from me until then.

Sorry – Meant to write “I sincerely doubt whichever JDs posted about being ‘overqualified’ meant to be malicious or pretentious.”

did everyone get the fallvols email?

I also received the email. Thoughts?

i got it too. i don’t know…i wish i could talk to someone who acually did do the program. it seems like a fallback for the applicants who just barely missed becoming an intern…what do you guys think (akshar and np006)

Here’s my thought: I would love to volunteer in the White House Correspondence Office. That being said, I don’t think I could make the same sacrifices and invest the same resources into a volunteer gig as I was prepared to for the internship. If we lived in the DC area, it would be a no-brainer. Would it help with a future internship application? Maybe. And if I had more ample resources, it would be an option. Right now, I think I’m just going to have a hone my application for the spring and avoid the temptation to hex people that got in this semester.

Also, I read this article before I applied, and found it very disturbing. Now I think I understand what happened to this lady:

[Stripped of White House internship, Kennedy-King student wonders why | Chicago News, Events and Culture | Chi-Town Daily News](http://www.chitowndailynews.org/Chicago_news/Stripped_of_White_House_internship_KennedyKing_student_wonders_why,26791)

Got an interview today with an office…Apparently someone dropped out. Weird.

I don’t know when I opened it I was midly offended. I mean after everything we went through waiting for this in July they asked us if we want to be volunteers? On top of that we had to resubmit our applications with a cover letter. It seems like np said its the same hours and responsibilities as an intern without the title. Thats not to say it’d wouldn’t be a huge opportunity regardless of the position or title but it just seems like a consolation prize for getting rejected. I’d rather wait for the Spring application…

The Spring Application went live today. They also redesigned the internship section of the whitehouse.gov website. The new Deadline is September 20, with notifications November 15. Happy Thanksgiving, anyone?
