White House Internship

I’ve been contacted by three offices, but only interviewed with two…That could be good or it might mean they don’t know where to put me or I just don’t fit anywhere :frowning: I just want to find out already! So you guys don’t think we’ll find out til next Friday?

@vs2010, I think we should know by Monday (hopefully).

I figure they will let us know in two weeks (extend their deadline of next week) and give us a status update by next Friday though.

I agree with WH2010 in his proposition decisions will not be sent out until later in the week. Think about it; if we assume they actually intend to release decisions next week per their posted schedule, and have been interviewing candidates as recently as earlier today, they would have just tomorrow and perhaps monday morning to render decisions regarding those interviewed. This seems like a very small amount of turnaround time - and I doubt the WH staff will preoccupy themselves with internship applications of all things over the weekend - leading me to conclude we will not hear back until later in the week. Keep in mind that they notify you the “week of April 5”. There is a reason for using a certain week, instead of a particular day, as a timeframe.

I would also agree with others who are impatient. The whole process is far from transparent and the office appears to do little in the way of helping applicants, or at least, allaying their concerns. I wish we knew where our applications were, too. For example, I get the impression their is no formal process, i.e. individual offices seem to have great discretion in conducting interviews. Some applicants get the position without an interview whereas some of those granted interviews still do not get offered a position. I think we would all like to the better benchmarks which would then be made available to us, so that we can gauge whereabouts we stand in the process.

@vs2010

Which offices contacted you?

So funny, I just got my third confirmation e-mail for a recommendation THIS MORNING!! Does this mean they are still piecing together applications? It is hard to still be hopeful at this point, but at least I know they now have my application package complete!

Has anyone heard from the Office of Presidential Personnel at all?

I heard from the OPP, I actually had an interview. It didn’t go too well though so… idk = (

@ApplePears, why do you think your interview didn’t go well?

Anyone else just getting confirmation emails, like Fromage?

I also just got an application confirmation along with the confirmation of two of my recs. I guess they are still putting apps together in the system. Does anyone else have any insight?

With no interview and only a week to go, I’m not feeling very optimistic.

It occurs to me that perhaps the White House is purging its system of those applicants it does not want, and that you are somehow being sent confirmation messages you have yet to receive as a byproduct of this purge. I may be wrong, but it’s just an idea I had.

In anticipation of the White Houses’ Decision: “Worrying is like a rocking chair; it gives you something to do but gets you nowhere!” I guess we all have to just take a deep breath and understand we did the best we could and put forth the greatest effort we could; if its meant to be it will happen. Patience! Patience! Patience!

@ LW Trojan: It was just really sudden and I was about to leave my dorm but of course I stayed to conduct the interview. But when he stated that he was from the White House I became really nervous… I think if I had anticipated his call I would have been way more prepared.

& even though I have received the vital email and an interview I also received some type of “confirmation email” which was weird… Soo Idk… I guess next week will be the bearer of bad or good news let’s just continue to keep our fingers crossed!!!

ApplePears, did the interviewer give you any insight into the selection process?

Though I didn’t get an interview, I know is it a blind selection process, having been told so by an alum of my school who is a WH employee.

@WH 2010 …He didn’t say much concerning the selection process he just stated that this was a “telephone interview”…so I’m assuming that I made it through certain rounds if I got that far… & when the interview concluded he stated that I would hear something within the next one or two weeks.

To those of you who received the “vitals” email but haven’t been interviewed, to which offices did you apply to?? I’m in the same situation but am refusing to believe that interviews are over. Perhaps certain offices haven’t done interviews yet??

BL34499100: I’m facing the same conundrum at present at you. To what offices did you apply?
