White Student Union at Towson University will conduct nighttime campus patrols

I think this is very alarming to students and parents considering Towson.

White Student Union at Towson University will conduct nighttime campus patrols

Why? From the article

If universities encourage non-white students to organize along racial lines (which colleges don’t have black, Hispanic, and Asian student associations?), it is inevitable that some whites will also organize. To say that only whites cannot organize along racial lines is discriminatory, especially as they lose majority status in many parts of the country.

It’s alarming because they are patrolling specifically targeting blacks, ostensibly because, and I quote, " The virtue of white Christian womanhood is under attack at Towson University by degenerate criminals seeking to rob our women of their God given innocence". ([Towson White Student Union: Black Crime Wave Continues!](Traditionalist Youth Network Towson Chapter (Towson White Student Union): Black Crime Wave Continues!)). History has told us how that goes.

gunnerz- this group represents a teeny-tiny minority of the Towson U population. They are attention seeking and getting all they want right now but I don’t think they will have staying power on campus.

beliavsky just doesnt understand lol

S lives in Baltimore and every now and then reminds me that even though we tend not to think of it that way, Maryland was part of the old South, and certain aspects of that identity persist. Indeed.

Beliavsky, I guess it doesn’t trouble you even a little that the head of this group made those moronic pro-slavery remarks at CPAC and is quoted in the article as saying about slavery that “I can’t make one broad statement that categorically it was evil all the time because that’s not true.” Just an ordinary guy trying to advance the interests of his innocent college club, I guess.

I think one of the many virtues of attending college is getting to know many types of people, so you can become adept at recognizing a piece of c**p when you meet one. Towson students can certainly make the most of that opportunity.

Just off the phone with my TU student. Not one mention of this organization, just the details of what I should bring when I come up on Saturday, and commentary on the hail that was falling as she walked home from class.

I’m assuming much ado about nothing. These types of groups thrive on shock factor and getting as much press as possible. The leader calls himself Commander Heimbach. What else do you need to know? Seems to be some sort of inferiority complex.

Beliavsky, as I just posted on another thread that I think you’re following, context matters. In a vacuum, of course there should be nothing wrong with having both black and white students groups. But that isn’t remotely the world we live in.

I’m white, and I can’t for the life of me tell you what white culture is, except negatively (it isn’t black, Hispanic, or Asian culture). I’m also Jewish, which may change the equation somewhat, but I believe the same holds true for most other whites. People identify as Italian, or German or French, but not as white. There’s pretty obvious historical reasons for this. For most of American history, whites represented a significant majority of the population, especially in positions of power. When “white” is the default, it isn’t a particularly meaningful signifier, so people are going to identify based on less sweeping ethnic, religious, and geographic distinctions. In addition, the various white groups that came to America were from different and culturally distinct countries, some of which had been long-time enemies. What common white identity would there be between a German-American, an Itailan Catholic, a WASP and a French immigrant? Of course, black Americans are hardly monolithic either. In their case, however, a shared experience of being minorities in a country with a history of race-based discrimination provides a clear, common interest.

The only people who have identified themselves by their whiteness have been racist groups. Maybe at some future point, there will be reason to celebrate or acknowledge a distinctly white culture for more innocuous reasons, but we’re not remotely there yet, and from what I’ve read, it doesn’t sound like these Towson students are interested in anything other than racist demagoguery.

Just to make sure that people know who they are, perhaps The White Patrol could wear something white, maybe even something in conical form that could stand up on top of their heads, make them feel taller…Just for “safety’s sake”. Maybe wear some shiney letters too. Let’s see… Safety’s Sake - yes, they could wear SS on their chests or maybe on their collar tabs, so all the other kids could see and admire them. When they are not on “patrol”. Maybe some torchlight parades?

Please do not reinforce that stupid perception that just because a place is below the Mason-Dixon (in the case of Towson, literally just a few miles below) that somehow it is more prone to racisim than the saintly northern states. This has nothing to do with the state of Maryland and could just as easily have occured at a Pennsylvania or Ohio school.

This kid is just an attention-seeking pipsqueak and when media try to make a story out of something like this, they play right into his hands. There is no story here. Towson has not endorsed or supported this group and absolutely nothing has happened as a result of this group’s formation. I really doubt that anything will. Indeed.
