I've read posts about visiting, and posts from kids who want to go, but does anyone on this board attend or have kids who attend? I'd love to get some first hand information.

I've read the Whitman threads, but no one seems to be there.
I should probably take it as a good sign that Whitman students don't
hang out on this board. ;) Parents?

I think Whitman kids are so busy and happy that they don't lurk or post here much or often. It seems to have a very collaborative/cooperative (versus competetive/prestige-minded) student body so they may not have followed boards like this as much in their search as I think kids do when they are focused on rankings or Ivys.

mmaah - do you have a student at Whitman? Or are you somehow affiliated with the college?

I'm taken in my the school's wonderful website, and have told my son that he HAS to take a look as soon as AP week is over. It seems like a school tailor made for him.

My son discovered the school in the Fiske guide last summer when he FINALLY got in gear on the college search. He asked if we could visit on a summer trip to the Northwest--and we all fell in love with the place. He went back in the fall to visit, interview, spend the night--after doing the same at Macalester. We supported an ED application because it seemed to be a wonderful fit for him and he was delighted to be admitted. So I am not a Whitman parent yet--but looking forward to it with enthusiasm. (He has actually decided to defer and do a gap year so I will have to wait...but I am pleased that this is also the kind of venture they support.) I have sought out a lot of information on the school over the last 9 months and continue to hear enthusiastic reports about the quality of the students and their experience. And while Walla Walla gets a lot of good humored disparagement--and is not that easy to get to--it is a wonderful destination from my perspective and the community is strongly supportive of the college, especially in terms of the arts.
