I think I'm going to apply there. How do you guys think it stacks up against other top west coast LAC's, such as Pomona, Reed, and Colorado College? Or, how does it stack up against places like Lewis & Clark and Occidental? Just looking to find out some more about Whitman...

Its below Pomona and Reed in terms of academic intensity, but above Reed in the rankings. To me, its definitely better than Lewis and Clark and Occidental. I would say it is a top 5-7 west coast LAC, behind Pomona, Reed, CMC at minimum. If you look at the average SAT scores, its clearly not a bad school.

Its BIGGEST downfall by far is its location. Its in Walla Walla. Its NOT a powerhouse sports school, to make up for that, like Washington State University is...up the road. Not that Walla Walla is bad...its just remote. There is natural beauty there and plenty to do outdoors, just not an active social life as you may find in larger cities. Its not easy to get to...but there is a "system" for kids to thumb rides to Portland and Seattle or Spokane to get cheaper flights etc.

Its a very good school. Its definitely a West Coast School. Not nationally known. If you want a job in DC after graduation, you will find it a tad difficult, unless working on the Hill for a Congressman from California, Oregon or Washington, for example.

Why? Because there is a PLETHORA of Duke, Georgetown, George Washington, Ivy grads, NYU, UVa, UNC, Washington and Lee students etc etc to compete with.

WallStreet? That blew up three weeks ago. Fuhgettaboutit.

Working in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, LA? You will be fine coming from Whitman.

Good luck.
