Whitman or Colorado College?

Well all of the letters are in and these appear to be my choices... anybody have any insights?

I have done quite a bit of research into the teaching plans of each school and the differences in the generalized student bodies. I am on the fence about the block plan, although I feel that it would probably work fine with my style of learning. I love recreating in the outdoors, but also love smaller communities. I like the closer-knit feel of the Whitman campus, but am attracted to the awesome outdoor opportunities available at CC. Also, CC statistically generally rates higher than Whitman for academics, which I believe should be taken into account (although I also believe that I can make my education exactly what I want at either school).

Essentially, I am hoping that someone here might have made the same decision that I am about to make, and that I might be able to learn something from them. Of course, though, even if you are not facing this particular decision, I would appreciate any suggestions or opinions that you can share.

Thank you.

Hmm what is the financial situation like?

i know im not adding too much to the discussion since I know absolutely nothing about colorado college but I wanted to throw in that I loved Whitman. they flew me down there for a couple days and i loved it.

In fact, before then, i was applying to U Washington, Stanford, Cornell, Upenn, schools of that sort and the visit made me apply to whitman. It was the only liberal arts school I applied to. Just the way they treated me was great and made me feel like they truly care about each and every student.

Colorado College is a great school, but it also in a very conservative military town, not quite as hardcore and College Station, but not that far off.

I got into both schools, and have visited both. Colorado College was beautiful, and if you like the outdoors I am sure you would have a great time. Personally, I liked Whitman better, I can’t really pinpoint what I liked though. I think it had more of a community feel? And I’m sure there are lots of outdoor opportunities at Whitman. Both a great schools though. You can’t go wrong.

Great, thanks for all the input. I think I’ve decided on Whitman, based largely on the more obvious sense of community that it seems to have. Also, and I did not know this until recently, the average SAT/ACT scores at whitman are slightly higher than those of CC. Although not really a deciding factor for me, it is interesting to know (especially considering CC’s acceptance rate is so much lower). In any case, thanks a lot!

I am trying to make almost that exact same decision… it is difficult!
Tom, what field are you looking to go into academically and did that affect your decision at all?
Are there any other reasons you think you want to go to Whitman over CC? They might help me out with my decision.
Also did you get the community feel from visiting or from talking to people?
Thanks for any insight you have!
