who applied??

Looking back on posts from this time last year, it appears that this forum had more life in 2006. My D applied to Olin and is anxiously awaiting the end of January. Who else applied? I wonder if anyone from Olin admission might drop by and tell us the numbers for this year.

Good Luck to everyone. It is a great school

Woohoo I did! Well, I'm hoping less people did, haha.

I did too! Yay! Good luck to everyone.

I hope you all get in.

DS did! Anxiously waiting the end of January, and alternately cheering and groaning every time we read great publicity on Olin. Cheering because we agree, and groaning because we want there to be less applicants this year!

I did too!

i did! i'm really curious as how many applied too.. i get the feeling it could be tons more than previous years. yay olin!

Definitely more. Two New York Times articles + a ton of other things = 5x the applicants.

Including me :)

I did. I'd been looking at Olin since early 2006. When the NYT Magazine article showed up on Slashdot I groaned.

I applied. I really, really hope I make it to the Candidate Weekend. Even if I don't eventually get in, it sounds like a lot of fun.

Ha you guys sound like my friend last year. He is happily at Olin this year. All year when I asked him what his first choice was he said, "Olin, but don't tell any other seniors about it." He is having an amazing time there this year. Good Luck!

"5x the applicants."

Ugh which means 5x lesser chance to get in!! :( Seriously, I hope it hasn't increased too dramatically because I really really wanna go to Olin!!

I'm assuming (hoping) that silentsailor was exaggerating... but yeah. :(

It is hard to believe that it is a year since my son was applying.
He is now happily settled in at Olin. It is a great fit for him. Academics are top notch and it is also a LOT of fun! The other night the school bought in pizza for everyone! He said he had never seen so many pizzas in one place.

For those invited to Candidate's Weekend, have a great time! I think my son was more excited about getting that invitation than he was about the acceptance letters he received from all the other schools! If your parent(s) are able to join you there, they will have a wonderful time as well.

Good luck to you all on becoming "Olin '12"!

I applied.

On the bright side Olin may finally get the recognition it deserves, and more applicants should help the students who do get in the school (more qualified students would enter on average, if that is possible).

But of course this makes it near impossible to get accepted. :( I think I heard a while ago that they were thinking about expanding Olin to make it about twice as big (population-wise.) At this rate they could do that and still be one of the most selective schools in the country.

I'll be counting the days until February in the meantime...

"makes it near impossible to get accepted."

Don't say that. Please.

Eh, sorry about that. I did exaggerate a bit. But think. What, 17% of around 800 students get accepted? This number will probably be a bit lower this year. And these aren't just any 800 students who apply, they probably rank much higher than average to begin with.

Of course its tough by statistic, not quality. I think Olin is looking for very specific things. If you are a great "fit" for the school, you may already be in the minority and your real chances of admission would go up greatly. I bet that there's a pretty strong relationship between desire to come here and acceptance. Or at least I hope so. Good Luck!

At one time president Miller did say they planned to have more students. Right now, however, between 70 to 80 people will be accepted.

Application Numbers Have Just Been Announced...

I know that you all are anxious to know how many applied this year. An email was just sent out from the admissions office to students and families associated with Olin. The numbers are actually a little lower this year, because the deadline was moved up from January 1 to December 1. I'm really not surprised because I remember how busy the end of the first semester of the senior year in high school is. When my son applied to colleges a few years back, he used his winter break to finalize a lot of applications.

Anyway... the numbers are as follows:

964 applicants for the class of 2012. That is 90 less than last year, most likely due to the change in the application deadline.

47 states and the District of Columbia are represented. The states without any applicants are Kansas and North and South Dakota.

There are 74 applicants who are not U.S. citizens, of this number 35 do not attend school in the U.S.

74% men 26% women, which is a ratio similar to last year.

This year's applicants tended to wait until the last minute to apply; 60% applied three days prior to the application, 35% the day before the application, many waited until it was close to midnight in their timezone.

At this point you just need to relax. There is nothing you can do now but wait, and whatever happens, happens. I'm sure you all applied to great schools and you will be happy and successful wherever you end up.

Good luck to you all.

the numbers... are lower? I have to admit I'm a bit relieved, although surprised and a bit disappointed for Olin. Eh. I'm sure the quality of applicants hasn't declined. Like the fact of how many international students there are. :)

I was one of those who waited until the end though- I submitted it 5 minutes before 12... didn't intend for that but I tried updating my resume last minute and it took a really long time to go through (I did it on Photoshop.) Sigh... All shall be determined.
