I kept checking the site and its finally out!! whoo!!

I know very little people come to this forum, but I had to get rid of my excitement somehow

This forum has been active during the past. . . you're starting it up for this application season! :)

Several Olin students check in time to time and answer questions. My daughter graduated from Olin in May, so I have some Olin experience.

Good luck with the applications everyone. Make sure not to forget any forms or recommendation letters!

Kevin '06

Also, keep in mind that the application deadline has been moved up this year- so it's good you're looking at it early :) Good luck!

The essays look pretty easy as well; like they want the people who want to come to Olin the most to be accepted. I don't mind :)

What are the essay topics this year?

Given what you know about Olin College, please tell us why you think Olin is a good "fit" for you. Please keep your thoughts to no more than 500 words.

What is your passion? Please keep your thoughts to no more than 300 words.

If you look at the site it screams out "fit" and "passion" all over the place, which is a good thing of course. Personally I think the questions are similar to last year's but just reworded to make them more general.

chrisd - Son#2 is very interested in Olin! Son#1 though, has a good friend at Babson - he says he has never met an Olin student even though they are next door. We walked over to Babson when we visited - what is your daughter's experience with Babson? Do the students interact between Olin and Babson? Did your daughter take advantage of any of the cross-scheduling between Babson, Brandeis or Wellesley?

My daughter took classes at Brandeis, Wellesley and Babson.

My impression is that there's not much Olin/Babson mixing. They are two very different student groups. I don't think there's a lot of mixing between business and engineering students at other universities.

You may get a better answer to this question from one of the Olin students who post here now and then.

As for Babson/Olin interaction, it depends. In general it seems that Olin students are more socially involved with Wellesley students. However, many Olin students take part in clubs and clubs sports at Babson. Then those students tend to interact more with Babson students in general.

Also some students take classes at Babson. It seems that the students who take lower level (101-type) of classes at Babson have a lower opinion of Babson and it's students than students who take upper level or more specialized classes at Babson. But that makes sense because students in upper level classes tend to be there more by choice and therefore put more effort in. Whereas my experience in a freshman class at Babson exposed me to students who didn't seems to care about the class or participate much.

There have also been multiple incidences of Olin engineering students and Babson business students working together on product and company ideas.

So basically, you can get more interaction if you want it. Some students have made and kept great friendships with Babson students.
