Who can I get to cosign for me for college if my parents will not?

And I do not know my friends' parents well enough to even ask and no other family members who can't.

I am 19 so I am not independent and have no credit so I can't take out my own loans either..Any suggestions?

My suggestion is that you attend a school you can afford without having to have someone cosign for loans.

thats not really a good suggestion because i still would need to take out loans because financial aid does not give me much because they think my parents make too much money…any other suggestions?

My suggestion still stands. It is not a good idea to spend more than you can afford on college. There are surely colleges you can attend that don’t require you to take out private loans. I am willing to bet the other adults here will chime in with the same advice (most, anyway).

If your parents don’t trust you to repay your debt you are going to have a hard time finding someone else who will. I agree with Kelsmom, if you can’t afford the school, find a different school.

who said my parents do not trust me? my mom has bad credit and my dad cant right now… the majority of college students have their parents take out loans under their name so the majority of students will be in debt no matter what.

Someone has to pay the college bills. If your parents will not do so, you will need to figure out a way to pay yourself. Even IF you could find a consigner, the notion that you should fund all college costs with loans is ridiculous.

Just an FYI, MOST parents do NOT take out loans to fund the entire cost of attending college. They expect their kidsto attend colleges that the family can afford.

I would suggest that you work full time, live at home to save money, attend a community college and go from there.

and again your suggestion is still not helpful because without loans i wouldnt be able to afford college anyway. im asking what i can do to get the money…im not going to a different school because that is not happening…i love the school that i am in so if you can’t suggest anything for me thanks anyway but i dont need any negative comments that arent relevant to my discussion.i needed to find out ways to get loans…

thumper: not too many people i know at my university pays out of pocket…i really dont need to be stressed more with this. i was asking a simple question not going into detail with what i do with the loans…so…

I admit I don’t know much about this subject, but if you are financially independent, could you get financial aid based on your own income?

Unless a friend or family member cosigns, there is no way. Cosigning is not something people take lightly. It makes them responsible if you can’t pay. You can have the best intentions but jobs are hard to get for many now. And when someone cosigns, you tie up their credit, so if they want to buy a car or a house they may not have available credit.

We know you don’t want to hear it but you need a wake up call. Collages are consumer products, you need to go to one you can afford. There are no loan fairies and people don’t casually cosign loans. Everyone’s parents do not take loans. The majority of students will not be in debt no matter what.

You’re telling us your parents have good income but bad credit. Don’t make that you! Yu won’t even know what stress is until you are in debt with no way to pay it back and no way to discharge it.

Have you applied for the maximum Direct Loans available to you?

BLK616: I am not independent that is the issue.
Batllo: I know this. Not until this December.
Susgeek:I do not think so. Thanks i’ll check it out.
waverly:its not a wakeup call because i already know this information but i am not currently asking to rehear it…uhm no im telling you my MOTHER has bad credit. my dad just cant do it for me right now. he has great credit and good income…my mom doesnt have good income…and you dont pay it all back at once you do payments once you graduate. And clearly you havent been reading the notes. The highest debt comes from COLLEGE STUDENTS. So yes a good majority of students take out loans to help pay for university schooling. And most of the people I know have to do this. So i am speaking from personal experience. And trust me i know what stress is. I am already in debt by taking out loans to pay for school…

Having someone co-sign your loans is a big deal. It makes them responsible for the loan. This, as another poster has mentioned, may limit their ability to borrow since banks look at the total amount of debt, including all co-signed loans. It also means that if you are unable to pay, they will have to pay or deal with dire legal and credit problems. So, it’s not a small thing that you would be asking.
Talk to the financial aid folks at your school. They can help you find loans you can take out directly. Figure out how much money you can earn with oncampus and summer jobs. If that isn’t enough. you’ll have to come up with another plan.

You need to listen to what people are saying. This is the real world. There is no money fairy. Money will not appear because you want it to.

You can’t take out loans on your own. No one will loan you money that is a fact. You have no credit history and no income. And people are not going to co-sign for you.

You have a few options. Find a cheaper school. Take a leave of absence and work for a year or so to save money. Or drop out.

That is pretty much it. Shouting “no” and not believing what you are told does not change the facts.

How much more do you need above the Stafford loan limits? If your mom applies for a Parent Plus loan and is turned down, you would be eligible for an additional $4K in unsubsidized Staffords.

iron maiden: ive made it very clear i cant take out loans myself. i never said i dont believe what i am being told i am saying everyone is not staying on topic. what i do with the loans in my personal business i am asking if there is any other way i can get a person to cosign…but since there is not there is no reason to go into what i decide and many others decide to do with the loans. have a nice day. And there are people who im sure i can get to cosign for me but i am looking for other alternatives so i dont have to ask them.and all universities have the same amount of instate tuition. and what difference will a year make saving money when i can get a full time minimum wage job until i get a salary paying job and start paying off school?

@nemom i keep saying i understand what cosigning is.And i already do have an on campus job…it isnt easy getting a lot of hours when you are a full time student

A lot of folks have made suggestions but you just seem to be arguing with them. No one here could possibly make an informed suggestion about “who” you can get to cosign a loan for you. We don’t know you personally. If getting a cosigner for your loan is your only option (which you seem to be suggesting) pick up the phone and ask someone you know. Good luck!

sk8rmom: Thank you yes i heard that. I am going to be putting my mom of my fafsa this year since she makes less than my father and hoping that i get more financial aid.

moonrise: that is because some of them are being rude and going into topics i did not ask to get advice on…if they didnt have any idea who i could get to cosign for me then it was a no and they could have kept it moving to another discussion. plain and simple.
