Who decides if we get accepted or not?

So who decides if we get accepted or not? Is it just ONE person that reads our personal statements etc. that decides if we get in? Also wouldn't there be scenarios where 1 person might say, a 3.8 gpa? that's great, welcome to ucla. and another person saying 3.8? pssh and throws it into the pile.

So there could be a scenario where if our application lands in someone's hands that dislikes our personal statements while there could've been another person that would've actually enjoyed it and possibly have accepted us?

Btw, are there like 100s of admissions officers that reads it for each school? considering there's a lot of to read in a few months...

There is a uniform point system. A GPA is worth x amount of points, etc. once you cross over a certain number, you are admitted. The only subjective part is the personal statement, which is why it is important that your personal statement is not politically or morally offensive to any reasonable person.

^im pretty sure that only applies to prospective freshman applicants

I think that 3-4 people on the admissions committee go over each application (at least the personal statement).

I seem to remember reading that at least one campus has two readers review every application. If they disagree, a third reads to break the tie.

I started a thread with a similar topic last year… Search through the threads I started to find it. Someone posted an old video of some Berkeley readers reviewing applications. Their process was different from what I describe above.
