^ that’s exactly what it says

Rejected: M.E.
GPA: 4.4
SAT: 1950
(2) Engineering internships

Does anyone know how they can accept students with lesser gpa/sat and turn down those who are more highly qualified? How do we not take this as a complete insult? Is it because it’s a state college? Just trying to come to terms with it…what is the catch?

Looks like the rejected group doesn’t have anything to feel ashamed of, given the stats being shared here!

So, what is plan B? Was anyone expecting to be accepted here? Where is everyone else hoping they will end up?

Impacted majors and service area makes a difference too.

I think it is exactly dependent upon the major and where you live.

Engineering is probably one of the most impacted majors at the school, so the admit rate is going to be quite low.

Some of the CSUs do give preference to service area, ie where you live, but I don’t know if Cal Poly is one of them. They are not all required to do so, I believe.

VSmart It might have been your SAT score. Not that it is bad but if you look at some of the people accepted to ME they had similar GPA but higher test scores. My SAT was 2200 and ACT was 34 and I got accepted. Not saying that is right but I think the engineering department puts a lot of weight on test scores

Applied for Aerospace Engineering w/ 4.2 weighted, 2020 SAT, 720 Physics SAT, and 760 Math II SAT o_O

would it be better or worse to apply with your major as undecided?

Dont think at Cal Poly you can apply as undecided

yea i just found that out. is it possible to switch majors when you get accepted or do you have to stick with your original major?

For freshmen–how to apply to Cal Poly SLO:

[How to Apply - Admissions - Cal Poly](<a href=“Cal Poly Admissions”>Cal Poly Admissions)

“Explore and choose a major to which you will apply since Cal Poly requires applicants to declare a major on the application. Applicants also must thoroughly educate themselves on their intended major’s offerings and requirements for degree completion prior to submitting an application for admission (major changes are not allowed after an applicant has been selected).”

Is it possible to switch majors? Yes, maybe. You will have to complete your first quarter in the major you applied for and got accepted. According to what the advisers told my son’s incoming class, changing majors within a college (e.g., from biology to physics) is easier than transferring between colleges (e.g., letters and science to engineering). Also depends on what major you want to transfer into, what major you are switching from - and what your grades are. Certain impacted majors (e.g., engineering) have very limited capacity to accept transfers. They did tell us that there are certain transfers they almost never allow (can’t remember what they are, but got the impression they had a problem with some people coming in under a major that had easier acceptance and trying to transfer to one with tougher acceptance).

Anyone going to appeal?

Rejected

Civil Engineering
GPA: 3.57
SAT: 1910
