who didn't get asked for letters of recommendation??

let’s all be sad together

wait I didn’t get asked for a LOR – is that a bad thing?

Only about 15% of applicants will be asked for LOR’s, so you are in the majority.

From what ive noticed, no one is positive why they ask for them but the consensus is that its for border line students so can be a good or bad thing by that logic.

Here is my opinion on why LORs are requested. I don’t think it’s borderline, more like too many applicants that are not the best of the best, yet still highly qualified. Out of over 85,000 applications, there are about 1000-2000 they will accept immediately and these kids will get their letters very early. That leaves 83,000 with only about 14,000 who will get acceptance. Having a LOR will help admissions select from the huge group of qualified applicants.

I didn’t get asked for LOR. My sister was asked for LOR 2 years ago and got accepted to Berkeley.

Didn’t get asked but I don’t think it’s a bad thing

I think requests for LOR’s are still going out, correct? So, keep an eye out for anything from them (check whatever email address you’ve given them, frequently - you’d be surprised with the number of deadlines prospects missed because they never checked their email). Anyhoo, if you don’t wind up getting an LOR request, it’s either really good news (because your stats are so good they don’t need another data point), or really bad news (your stats are not good enough for LOR’s to make any difference). With the way seemingly highly qualified candidates are getting rejected by top schools (because it isn’t just about raw stats is it?), I cannot begin to tell you which way it will go for you, even if we had your stats. No news is…not bad news at this point. Everyone will know by the end of March.
