Who fills out my FAFSA?

I think you should talk with the UF folks. That your mom (and stepdad) have been providing you some support (in the form of health insurance) would not support your claim for emancipation. I'm not an expert on this, and I would recommend you find someone who is...but I was of the understanding that to become emancipated, you had to have NO (read that NO) contact with your parents. They would be providing you with nothing. And typically, the student also has NO (read that...no) contact with the parent(s). But like I said...I'm not an expert on this.

I know a financial aid officer. She says she has seen it all. Families will have a child live with siblings, aunts, grandparents...thinking this will establish instate residency. It doesn't. They think this will make a child qualify as an independent student...it doesn't.

Please, take the advice of others. Speak to a knowledgeable financial aid person and get this sorted out.

I agree with Thumper. That your parents have provided you health insurance is a thread of a connection. There may be more. Such as declaring you as a dependent on tax returns, all sort so things that you may not have thought about.

Trouble is emancipation does not help for FAFSA purposes. I agree you really do need to talk to a financial aid person. You seem to be between a rock and a hard place.

Yeah... most of this seems to be unfolding to my disadvantage.
My mom has not claimed me on taxes for at least two years I believe. No one claimed me this year.
