ANybody have any insight on this? GoulB?

I made a post a while back about this: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=37378&highlight=axline+scholarship

Feel free to ask any questions that I didn't answer...

Hey Goulb, how competitive was it this year. International olympiad winners and such?

Also, I thinnk Joe commented on that thread that some non-Axline students "outshone" other Axline students?

Why is that?

Also, how come the one student last year with medals (2 Gold and 2 silver?) in the International Computing Olympiad (or something like that) not get an Axline?

Not to be picky, but you can call me Ben :).

It happens all the time that non-Axlines end up being more successful at school and in life than Axlines. That just shows we're not perfect at predicting who will be the best. We're pretty good though.

As for amazing students not getting the Axline, it's a combination of factors. One is that the other students who get it are so good that many of them are at or above that level of achievement. Beyond that, many factors go into the decision process, so it's impossible to go back and say exactly why something happened a certain way. We do our very best to get it right, and we trust the process we have.

Hey Ben do you know any Axlines? what kind of people are they?

I believe that Ben himself is an Axline Scholar...

I know the name of one person offered an Axline scholarship who turned down Caltech to go to Brand X. I think that person had good and sufficient reasons to apply to Brand X, Caltech, and a few other schools (all of which accepted this person) and to decide on which school's offer of admission to accept. I respect the right of individuals to differ on what their favorite college situation is. Thus my advice to you, the person who opened this thread, is "Don't worry about it." Do your personal best, and see what happens after you apply for admission at places that interest you.

Thanks tokenadult, but I was just wondering about it. I know I'm not going to get the scholarship....
