miaoling- naturally, it depends on what you want to major in and what type of school you're looking for. i'd recommend that you arrange some phone interviews with school representatives or alumni. also, does princeton have EA? because if not, then early admissions to princeton would be binding which i 100% would not recommend, since you want to compare financial aid packages.

savoirfaire-- I hope you get into whatever college you want just because I love your cc-screenname and wish I'd thought of it first. :)

I am worried that if an average guy get in, how is he going to survive at the school?

My best friend ("average" by this forum's standard) got into harvard this year, but turned it down. (I wouldn't have).

Sorry to say, but I can't imagine him competing against AIME perfect scorers, IQ 200 geniuses, etc.

Surviving poses as big of a problem as getting in (at least to me).

eh...
from what i've heard most ivies getting in is much harder than graduating.

IQ scores are not a measure of ANYTHING, least of all "genius."

Perfect scorers on the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME) are so rare that they can't even fill up one of the smaller class sections among Harvard's offerings of math courses.

That said, there are some students at Harvard who are AWESOMELY prepared for very challenging academic work as first-year students. Other Harvard students are "only" very, very well prepared to take on new challenges as they transition from high-school-level academics to academics to academics that are well above the level of most other colleges in the United States.

damn from what i've been reading, it seems beauty queens get into harvard. nice

haha, thanks, sunglasses. :D

Okies my 2 cents, are international students more strictly reviewed than domestic?

All other things being equal (which they never are), it is harder for an international applicant to get into most of the more selective United States universities, because there is a whole world full of international applicants, and only limited space for international students in each entering class of a United States university. Generally, the international students are the superstars among the stars at most of the top United States universities.

hey all! i think my name is my goal. I'm a high school junior, in PA. I KNOW IT CAN SOUND SILLY, its my dream to go to harvard n be an elite. the thing is, i'm not born here, i'm a chinese guy, i came almost 3 years ago. i'm trying hard to keep my gpa high n study for sats, but i dont know what i should do, or know to have my best chance of getting in harvard. i looked at some of the discussions, u guys seem 2 know very much about harvard, i appreciate if some1 can help me on this, thx!!

"its my dream to go to harvard n be an elite"

a very laudable goal

haha, thank u. i just want to do something that i wont regret later.

Is a 670 CR and 710 Math (680 writing) too low for EA harvard?

nothing is "too low". That score just means you will have to be exceptional in other areas.

I wrote a supplement essay. It was about 1500 words. Though, it isn't something to crumble in the trash. And I included a "what else" page, two short paragraphs and 200 words.

good for you

wow 1500, I was afraid my 750 was overboard, lol

ya know, the odds are against me, is it really worth applying ea to harvard? should i apply early to my safety? i would like to get in ea at harvard, but i doubt i can do it. im so average. any thoughts?

If it's a safety, you don't need to apply early there, because you'll get in anyway, by definition of "safety school." Save your early application for a place where it makes a difference in your chances. Byerly claims, with considerable warrant I think, that applying early to Harvard makes a big difference in your chances (although this is denied by Harvard admission officers). Don't waste an early application on a safety school--but make sure you have a sure-bet safety school, and apply there rolling admissions before your early application deadline at your dream school if that is possible and if you want to have some assurance of admission success before you apply to your long-shot.

so if we have a reasonable chance at getting in and the school is our number one pick we should apply? are you supposed to use your ea on a school you have a much lower chance in getting into? i want to get into harvard, but i have a better chance at getting in ea at another school like cornell for example. should i apply ea to harvard because it is my dream school or should i apply ea to cornell because i have a reasonable shot?
