my friend: January 2004 1320
May 2004 1450

Can anyone beat my 260-point increase from the PSAT to the SAT?

You bet.

SAT 1270 --> 1600

If you'd count the first time I took a practice test (in grade 10), then:

1180 --> 1600

I didn't prep at all till second semester senior year.

Before prepping... 1370
After prepping... 1600

I can still remember the time when I would do anything to get pass 1400, ooh.

i went from 1300 to 1470 from jan 2004 to may 2004. My lowest practice test was 1010 on freshman year psat.

I went from a 1250 in the Spring of Sophomore year, to a 1570 this October. Now of course, I had some other testings in between those two.

1310 to 1490, no studying.

7th Grade- 980/1600 M-450 V-530
PSAT- 1850/2400 M- 670 R-640 W-540
Jan. 11th Grade- 2070/2400 M-760 R-700 W-610 (6 essay)
June 11th Grad- 2190/2400 M-720 R-750 W-720 (11 essay)

180 improvement on Writing in 8 months time. I like the essay improvement aswell

i can whoop all of you.

2090 to 2370 in 2 months

+280

Wow chrischang, good for you.

Um, I got a disappointing 215 on my 10th grade PSAT, then a slightly better 227 in 11th grade, then a 2390 on my 1st SAT in 11th!

so I guess 240 point improvement from 10th to 11th grades!!

i've only taken it once!!! Hey but could you guys tell me what helped the most when you guys prepped?

Um, well, I only took the SAT once too, and I got my 2390 by taking SAT2s first. sounds like a weird strategy, but it helps to get momentum going by studying for SAT2s, then going into the SAT. you can also find out your strong and weak points. For example, i took SAT2 Lit and got an 800 before I took the SAT1, so I knew I could spend time practicing essays and studying math. the books I used were the college board official blue book and the 11 practice tests from Princeton Review. The Princeton Review practice book sucked. don't buy it, it's a waste of money and time. the blue book rocks.

one word of advice: don't take more than 1 blue book test all the way through. the scores in the book are guaranteed to be bad predictions of your actual SAT, so don't bother with more than 1 full-length mock test. there are 8 valuable official practice tests...just do one problem at a time in each of them and check your answers. it's more productive, and any score predictions you get by taking the tests like you would the real thing are probably wrong. I took 4 of the blue book tests like I would the real SAT, and on each I got 2270 or lower. waste of time..i should have gone through each problem and checked my answers.

dannnggg nice job jombob

alright, I am also thinking of taking the online course from College board. Hopefully preparation will help :D

oh yeah also, do you think I should do practice tests, and forget the workbook problems, and see what I need to work on?

Well I actually don't recommend any courses or anything...just buy the Blue Book, and do the practice tests AS workbook problems. Maybe take 1 practice test as a diagnostic...but don't waste your time taking any other tests in full. Break them up into problem sets...very good for you! And make sure to read up on your New Yorker and Atlantic Monthly...plus they're fun to read.

soph SAT- 2060
junior PSAT- 213
junior SAT- 2390

no idea how i was able to pull that last one off!

umm jimbob when u say DONT do more then 1 full practice mock test..because the results do not predict ur real SAT Score...do u mean that they are usually LOWER then your real SAT Score or HIGHER?...

and also can you please tell me why doing one-by-one is more effective..( becasue i need to develop a study plan)

oh and also do u think that memorizing a list of vocab words is a good streatgy to improve on the CR...(i am ok with math after a lil prac..and writiing i mma need to improve my essays..)

7th grade - 1150
8th grade - 1330

Sorry, I haven't taken two SATs in 2 straight years since. :P
