Am I the only one who has taken the SAT I Math section without a calculator? I also took the SAT II without a calculator. Has anyone done this and gotten a good score?

I used my calculator like twice on the SAT. And it was only to check my work. What a waste of weight.

I wouldn't try it on the SAT II though just because it's all about speed and I use the graph function all the time haha.

Haha, yeah I don't trust calculators. I can just do it by hand and it's much easier. I still managed a 700 (highest) on the SAT I, but I still don't know about the SAT II.

This kid on Nov. test was like "i don't need my calc" and the proctor was like "what are you some genius" and he's like "yeah" ... i wanted to punch him in the face .. theres my story

LOL. I'm not a genius. I'm just good with math and never could afford a calculator. So, I took the test the old fashioned way.

calcs are pretty cheap now, especcially the scientific ones. id reccomend keeping them with you just in case.

I took the ACT without a calculator and got a 36 in math. I just took the SAT I with only a 4-function because I left my graphing in school. Hopefully I still get an 800 in math.

I brought my calculator, which is not mine, for SAT I, but I didn't use it. It's easier for me not using calculator since I am not used to use it. BTW, I got 790 in Oct SAT.

I hate to even imagine my math score if I didn't use my calculator. Not pretty.

Got a 790 with calculator. As for being expensive, all you need for the SAT I is a 4 function I think... They run you about $2.

Having a calculator will give you an advantage if you're not that good with math, otherwise it's useless. For example, the last question on this year's wednesday PSAT, I think it was: x^(10)=5555 and (x^9)(y)=5, solve for xy...if you're good at math, you would have noticed the answer was 1,111 right away, but if you're not, you could have used any Ti scientific calculator and found the 10th root of 5555 and subbed it in and gotten the right answer.

i took both without a calculator... math II was a bit tougher... i got an 800 on both...

Well, I have a calculator NOW, just not in middle school. I still don't use it much, though.

Likewise. To quote my math teacher, who must've taken some psych classes in college, "She understands the math, but she isn't a natural." I'm much less intuitive in math than I am in verbal.

i didnt really use the calculator when i did the problems on the SAT M (800) but i always finished early so when i checked my answers i used the calculator even for adding integers... lol, it just made me feel more confident (cause i usually make the dumbest mistakes)

on IIC (800) i used the calc more though, because even though i could do the problems by hand, the calc was quicker so obviously i used it (well duh)

I do that too. :)

I took the sat I without a calculator... got a 790
i already got two 800's on the math section before, so it was an experiment :-)
missed one question...
