stressedOut: Last year, the acceptance rate to UCSB was roughly equal to 52percent, while UCI's acceptance rate was about 59 percent.

yeah, but that still depends on the stats of people who applied...i'm guessing UCSB got applicants who weren't as academically competitive
UCI should definitely be harder to get into

A lot of people consider UCI as the cut off for what they would consider a safety school, so they don't bother to apply to UCSB. As a result, UCI is able to admit more qualified applicants from the higher end of the pool, which would contribute to its higher acceptance rate. UCSB is a school that is more largely for people that are shooting for it not as a back up, or people in a more moderate range in the pool to be a safety (like me for instance).

I agree with Peppers. I also used UCI as the cut off school. I applied to 4 UC's total.

UCLA

UCSD

UCD (1st choice school)

UCI

UCLA and UCSD are both excellent schools and both difficult to get into, but I wanted to apply to them anyways even though neither was my 1st choice school. So for the 4th school, it was down to Berkeley or Irvine. I ended up choosing Irvine basically to use as a backup. I didn't have any interest in UCSB so I didn't bother applying.

UCI all da way!!!!

is it possible that if you get into UCD that you won't get into UCI, and vice versa?

I was rejected by both UCSB and UCD and got into UCI; so yes it is possible.

nschuchert, what are your stats?

UC GPA: 3.7
SAT 1: 1800 (600 M, 590 CR, 610 W)
SAT II's: 720 US History and 480 Literature
EC's: Pretty good, held numerous jobs at once, lots of community service and leadership roles, and an internship.

UCI is a better school than UCD or UCSB.

i'd go to uci over the other two.

do they do the acceptances first then rejections? getting a bit worried...

I think it's acceptances only right now. Don't worry though, I'm sure they'll be admitting people through the end of the month.

i guess a 4.1 weighted, 1870 is not good enough as an OOS...

why haven't I heard from irvine yet? I'm going crazy!

The Stats teacher at our school says that each of the admissions officers is given a stack of applications to review (she was an evaluator for Berkeley). Then, it is reviewed again by evaluators, or vice versa. What I'm getting to is that the admissions are coming out slowly in part because each of these stacks is reviewed by different people, and they work at different speeds.

Then again, our Stats teacher is known to give a lot of false information out too >_> (Cut my friend's essay down to 600 words TOTAL...somehow I doubt that was a good idea)

That might be it. It says on my UCI page that my admissions counselor is so and so and to contact her if I have a question about my admission. I know at least two people review each app and assign a score to the applicant. Not sure what happens after that.

still nothing.

i'm getting kinda freaked, but then again, a lot of people here and just about everyone i know at my school haven't gotten a response from uci.

still haven't gotten a response yet :/

Same here no response and I am kind of worrying about it, but like The Brian said a lot of people here and a few people at my school still haven't gotten a response yet

Let's take a vote...

should I stay up tonight???
