Who hates telling people you applied to Princeton?

Did anyone else place bets on their admission. I did. I bet one of my friends a chipotle burrito that I would get deferred. At least I will get a burrito in a few days. I hope this is not bad luck.

haha i just tell ppl when they ask that i applied to oxford ED. it takes care of everything.

I love Chipotle burritos.
I should have done that too... =/

i don't really hate telling ppl--i go to a kind of small school and everybody pretty much knows who i am, where i am applying etc. no one has ever applyed from my school and they are all really supported, always asking me if i heard back yet. It is hard to convince them i am not a shoe in though, and it will be hard to tell everyone if i got deferred/rejected. I guess i'll just have to hope for the best. If i get in, i guarantee the whole school will know by the end of the day--it would be wild!

hey JTC007 where do you go to School? I'm from MA< and go to Boston Latin School

Well... the question is really awful but it's nearly impossible to avoid it even as an international... (which makes the situation even harder)

It's hard to convince people that a 1800 SAT is not "absolutely sufficient" for the top notch universities, and together with all the prejudices I try to get around the question wherever possible...

Sometimes it gets really funny when I answer another question 2 times before he ask me the same "where are you applying the third time".

Or "Well, dunno yet... Chicago is a nice one". Just becomes even more difficult when a teacher who wrote me a rec asks me through the whole class whether it arrived and everybody is like "what are you doin?".

We don't have a rec system in Germany and we may apply for university as late as JUNE !! So it's really exceptional and everybody is interested, while many really hate elitism. (It's strange, but that's the way it is in Germany - you somehow have to excuse if your grades are fantastic... Don't ask me why)

i totally agree with you DavidALex... Peope think 1800 - 1900 would automatically get you in yo PRinceton.

I just laugh and be like..hope that works for me ;) But yeah, in my country, its unheard to apply to princeton or any other top notch school. Even the best of the best just settle for a mundane school....

wait... 1800/2400??? you're kidding

I'm not sure that 1800 would get you into even Oberlin ED

jeez, I never thought I'd hear Oberlin referred to as "even Oberlin."

No I'm not kiddin...

But see it from this point of view:

Could you name more than one German university or explain our system and which qualifications you need ? Now, probably not as there is no need for you... Of course people have heard about Harvard and Princeton, but they rarely know more about them except the fact that they are expensive.

Don't want to be patriotic, but I can understand them and even I have difficulties to evaluate the reputation of a top 20 school like WUSTL though I know the rankings and your admission process...

It's no naivity but rather the fact that the US are far far away...

in my country....it IS NAIVETY! lol....ON the real, they just DONT know! ONly a little portion, know that SAT scores are no guarantee to your admissions to Highly competitive schools in the US.

BUt I can definitely understand, because a large portion of the middle class in my country go to UK for Higher education. Basically, we follow the British curriculum here. So yea I MUST defend my country.lol

The point I was trying to make is that Princeton ED >> Oberlin ED and that with a score of 1800/2400... well, lets just say you better have some damn
good ECs.

Disclaimer: I have absolutely no background in the admissions process of Oberlin University, except for that article that was posted awhile back. For all I know, Oberlin may run an extermely selective ED program that rivals that of the Ivies. H*ll, I don't even know where Oberlin is.

it's ok, I understand what you meant. didn't mean to attack you. sorry.

Haha, now because everyone knows I have to call like 5-10 people if I get in (ya, ok..).
