Today I just submitted my common app. form, and I started to get excited excited about the possibility of attending Notre Dame next year. In only a few short months I'll know if the school my dreams rejected me for a second time. It seems like just yesterday I threw my rejection letter from last year in a paper shredder or when I walked on the campus I'm now at and told myself that I wouldn't be here the next year. I've haven't noticed much discussion about Notre Dame on this thread, so I thought I should start the conversion before we start worrying about getting the big white envelopes in the mail.

If anybody cares to know, I have loved Notre Dame since before I knew how to spell it and was very frustrated after my rejection for freshman admission last year. I'm at the University of Iowa right now, and I absolutely hate it and I never really wanted to give it a chance. I still managed a 4.0 last semester, but this semester has been a little more frustrating. Still, at worst my GPA cannot reasonably drop below 3.85 or so. My 18 credit hours this semester might give me a little wiggle room. The biggest drags on my application are the very few ECs in high school ( I have probably done more ECs in my first year of college than in my four years of high school) and my high school was a tiny public school in the middle of a cornfield. Hardly anybody ever successfully leaves that community. It offered one AP class, which I got a 5 on, and a few English classes from a local community college, which I took and will transfer to Notre Dame. I ranked 8/51 with an unimpressive 3.9 GPA and an ACT of 25 and an SAT of about 1900 at my high school.

So who else here has the alma mater stuck in their head?

Hmmm. I must be the only one. Good, maybe that will give me a better chance at getting accepted.

Do you need Calculus to transfer?

I took Calculus last semester - until I dropped it since my grade was so low that it would not transfer and would only drag my application. I have heard people say that even if you don’t have all of the required credits, they still might accept you if you can complete the missing credits before you are admitted. I don’t think Calculus itself is required, but since we need two math courses, it probably would be necessary. I would really hate it if I get accepted and then they tell me I have to take a calculus course at a community college this summer.

Wait, if Calculus was under “courses in progress” wouldn’t they count that?

Well, it would not really count until you finish the course with a high enough grade.

I thought that’s what Mid-term reports were for.

Are you saying that you in the middle if a course right now but are worried it might not transfer? I am not sure if Notre Dame waits until are grades are in to make their decisions.

No. Notre Dame is great, but not for where I’m looking at. Anyways, I’m class of '15 for HS.

I’ve heard that Notredame is really strict on what you have to take. College of Arts and Letters, you need Calculus 1 and 2. It would be better to have it when you apply.

And, no. I’m not taking a Calculus right - I’m probably not going to apply to Notredame. But what I’m saying is, other schools typically count courses in progress. Like if a school required Physics for transfer. And you were taking physics the semester you applied ,that would be fine.

This thread needs to be bumped.

I’m right there with ya … turned in my app a couple of weeks ago … Good luck! Hope for the best!
