Who here goes to a boarding school???

thats silly, in my opinion. thats why things need to be done on a case by case basis, imean prep education is obviously difficult but of course not everyone has the chance to go to prep school.

CTprep i definitely agree with you on this one ..jesus christ... I AM NOT GETTING INTO COLLEGE BECOZ I HAVE A 3.2..........well...oh wait U MICHIGAN..but my hopes for ivies ..well are slim

Bearcats, I believe you attend Hotchkiss? Or is it Choate R.H.?

For many people, to attend a boarding school, especially such schools as Hotchkiss\Choate (:D) would be a life-changing experience - a dream. To attend itself would be an honor. The things you learn there would prepare you for success in life, no matter where you go. Why do so many people seek to attend boarding schools? The experience is unparalleled. Not all of them have the intention of getting into the Ivies.
You should know that you are going to succeed no matter where you go. :)

Well said, Chaos!

CTPrep, are there a lot of drugs there? More than normal, or just the same as at other prep schools?

it's the same at every school even the top tiers, as far as i know, choate doesnt really hav any big "scandals" the last couple years...
trust me..if there were one we would know... we want the wild boars down more than anyone..wait maybe not the door(deerfield) [seriously, who uses a door as a mascot]

Wow, the door is really their mascot? I saw a picture of "The Deerfield Door", but never assumed it took place of an animal. ;)

Of course the "door" is not Deerfield's mascot, it is part of the schools's seal. The school may have had an indian mascot before it became embarrasingly un-PC. Now the teams (varsity only?)) are called the Big Green.

Ahhh. I get it.
What's PC?

PC = Politically Correct

Ah. But wouldn't that mean it would be supporting Indians? But I can see the complications.

yo bearcat, what about Taft? I thought you hated those guys haha...didn't know anything about Choate.

nah...the taft rivalry really isnt that intense nowadays, since we beat them 6 years in a row for taft/hotchkiss day (once a year) and they really have been on the downfall academically and as a school (or being outgrown by other schools)....schools move on to look for new rivalries when they are not matched up right, like hotchkiss' old rival used to be kent, but when hotchkiss started to burgeon, we outgrew kent, and something happened between hotchkiss and taft at that time, so now it's officially taft....but the rivalry has lessen recent years.
If you want a more laidback and less rigorous (still very) academic environment, taft might be a better choice than hotchkiss (i was told by a taft transfer)...but in terms of resources(the endownment and all these new music building and stuff) and faculty(we have way more PhDs, about 20 of them) and selectivity(not like its ever a good index), SSAT/SAT average and college placement,GO HOTCHKISS, snap!. The downside is you have to work even harder than you would have had to at taft. The kid transfered from taft with 3.9 GPA, studied his ass off, still suffered a 0.8point drop in his GPA, specially in the modern languages. becoz hotchkiss modern language tend to be accelerated, even regular classes, when i first went to hotchkiss, i took 1st year spanish, and there were 2 kids in my class who took 5 years of spanish, got placed in the class and didnt do well....third year spanish isl AP..while at taft AP is optional for 4th year students...ALL JUNIORS take AP english literature..while at taft it's optional for seniors.... so it's another level of academics at hotchkiss, but it's also another level of rigor which means more hectic life....
however, taft did rebuilt the entire college office which is pretty impressive, according to an admission officer at a college, taft is really trying to set a tone and go on the rise again...we'll see wut happens

I'm a senior at Exeter now. If you have any questions let me know; I'm on break right now so I have some time.

Since when was their some sort of Choate/Hotchkiss rivalry? We have nothing against you guys.

Olivia, there are no more drugs at Choate then you would find at your average prep school. Every school has some burnouts, but Choate doesn't have more than usual.

khon, what were your stats when you got in?

uhm this is slightly off topic so i hope you dont mind...
~is it weird or is it normal for a school to call you and try and set up an interview date and schedule?
because i've heard that it is usually done by the applicant or sumthing.

that means that they are really interested in you...do you play any sports? which school was it?

it was st. mark's...
i feel so guilty...
they left a message and they were like " we love to set up an interview and tour on campus..."
and im not applying to that school! =[
i hope they dont feel bad.

shikashakegurl, don't feel bad. They certainly won't be offended. They have plenty of applicants, and it's not like they know you personally. If they call more than once, say "Right now I do not think that I am able to apply to St. Mark's. If circumstances change, I will definitely set up an interview."
