who here has 18 credits+ freshman year?

i'm just wondering. i am a freshman currently doing 18, thinking of doing 18 again next sem.

just curious

I did 18 my first semester. 16 my second semester (but I also did a 400-level class my second semester which is why I dropped down). I didn’t have any real issues with it. In fact, this semester I only have 15 credits and I’m finding it to be my most difficult semester yet (but I am also working 6 days a week, sometimes more than one job each day). It all depends on how you balance. I would still be taking that many if I could afford it and I didn’t have to work so much.

Don’t take 18 credits just to take 18 credits. If you have that much spare time and it’s not going to affect your graduation plans, drop down a few credits and spend that time getting involved in projects, research, etc. It will generally help you a lot more in the long run than having that one extra class.

I basically had 18 each, of course each semester I had 1 class that had a D so it’s more like 15 15 even though each one was 18 attempted.

18’s not too hard if you’re dedicated to it

I did 17 my first semester, then 19 my second semester. Second semester I also had a 15 page research paper for my honors class, so that made the workload increase significantly. But it wasn’t too hard to accomplish.

I took 16 my first semester and 18 my second semester. 18 wasn’t bad at all…in fact, it was probably easiest for some reason. I’m back to 16 now but only because I have a lab.

I did and I never did after that. I just figure I need to take at least 15 credits per semester and I will graduate on time. On average, I usually take 16-17 credits, 5-6 classes each semester (6 classes only if one of the classes is a 1 or 1.5 credit) :D

I ended up with 18 credits, but I’m essentially taking twenty. o_o The additional two “non”-credits are due to an additional jazz ensemble and jazz combo that I’m in, but decided not to take for credit since there’s no need for it right now (there may be in the near future if I can start a jazz studies minor). It hasn’t been that bad yet; it just gets difficult if I have multiple papers to do at the same time, which has kind of happened so far a couple times. It helps that I don’t have a job (yet). If I remember correctly, I’m dropping down to 15 (though it’ll probably jump to 16 once I add jazz band for that semester) in the spring.

14 creds frosh year .

I’m doing 21, but this is the sort of thing that depends on how tough your professors/classes are. I think with good time management, it’s pretty simple to take care of. Then again, I wouldn’t be saying this if I were somewhere like MIT… I’m pretty sure 14 hours there would kill most of us.

4 classes right now, so 4 credits.

I took 17 first semester and then 20 second semester.

DMOC, your classes are only one credit each? That doesn’t sound right. A class is typically 4 units.

No, a class is generally 3 units. It varies by school, though.

I am currently taking 20 units and I have lots of free time, the only challenge is my English class.

19 credits :frowning:
I regret taking on this course load.

15 credits although because of a registrar screw-up I’m officially on 12 right now. But once I get that cleared up I’ll officially be on 15.

According to the plan I filled out, assuming I major in public health, I’ll be doing about 16 credits a semester after this because of labs.

I had 18 units the spring quarter of my first year (and 18 again this fall). It’s a real pain in the ass, even just considering the amount of time spent in class. The mornings tend to be full (and early), and then there are the days where you end up having to stay into the afternoon. Unless you can get it balanced, you’ll end up with almost high school like hours sometimes. The extra class also makes it that much more likely that you’ll have a class for whatever reason is unpleasant and really makes you wish you weren’t taking it.

I can’t wait for 12 units next quarter and/or in the spring

Odd, on my school’s website it specifically says:

Course name … professor … graded … ONE credit

It’s confusing.

DMOC and those not believing DMOC- I know several school’s that only do 1 credit - 1 class. A credit usually translates to between 3 and 4 “normal” credits that most schools on a semester schedule use.

As for me, I’ve taken (for my first 5 semesters): 18,17,18,17,14. Next semester I’ll take 18 again.

taking 18.5 right now. It’s hell, especially with some classes you really hate. I want to banish my homework from my sight, but there’s still 3 more weeks, and I’m hanging on B+s and A-s in all my classes, so I need to pull it through for the finals. It depends on whether or not you’re engineering major really. Engineering takes up a ■■■ load of time.

I wonder how many of you guys did 18+ and actually pulled off a 4.0 or something close.

P.S. if you are going to work part time, DONT take 18.5 credit hours. O_0
