Who here has Vassar fever? (ED, anyone?)

but ive realized that vassar is so much more for me anyways. and seole dont wry about it, i know how it feels believe me!! just dont take it personally, its all a big crap shoot. like nirvana said, have faith, and if not, it just wasnt meant to be, and thats ok!!

heyy orca, i'm glad you want to apply ED II to vassar - it's a great college! it says on their website that the most important factor is the secondary school record - and since you have a good gpa, i don't think you should worry. they also pay more importance on your junior and senior year grades so you should be alright if those are. as for your sports stuff, if you're good at them and interested to continue them at vassar, i think you should contact a coach. though your CR score is slightly below the average (700 last year), your math score is above the average (last year it was 690, i believe). the admissions said not to worry about the writing score that much because WR is a new addition but i think a high score can only help there so that's good! :) about the SAT IIs, i had really low SAT IIs but i guess that didn't harm me much. i'd say make your essays really sincere and demonstrate a lot of interest and don't worry about your SATs since your secondary school record is more than fine. best of luck and i hope i meet you at vassar next year! :)

Hi all!

Ok, first off, to those who are unsure of their chances: Colleges totally consider junior and senior year WAYYY more. And even if you start your junior year slowly, just remember that they are looking for trends as well. This means that if our grades have been on a really nice upward swing over the past two years, that will count as being a ver good sign.

Furthermore, international students should be aware that VAssar actually has slgihtly lower expectations of you on SAT's. Last year, when I was talking to a Dean of Admin, Mr. David Borus, he told me that Vassar realizes that the SAT can be a little harder for international students because english is often not their native language, thus making it tricky to give a test given in english.
That doesn't mean you should slack off though.....but i'm sure you won't!

Finally: make sure your grades stay decent in second semester of your senior year. By that time, a lot of you have gotten into college and it's easy to get a bad case of "Senior Slump" (or as some ppl call it "Senioritis"....though that literally means inflammation of the senior). Trust me, it's really easy to stop caring (I did, but luckily my gpa only suffered by .02 as compared to the previous semester so it was ok).

COLLEGES WILL RESCIND ADMISSION IF YOU SUDDENLY START TO GOOF OFF AT THE END OF THE YEAR!!!
Take this seriously, I know people that it's happened to. They got in, decided to shirk their IB commitments and got 2's and 3's on IB exams and the college turned around and said "Hey, you screwed up. Bye"

Thanks so much kee10 for the feedback!!! I'm really excited about vassar because i feel like it is a better fit for me! The thing is, there was a slight drop in my junior year grades (i mean compared to all As and A+'s soph. year. im totally not trying to brag here cause i hate when ppl do that, just trying to give an idea lol) due to a sudden increase in amount and difficultly of classes (3 APs and no lunch) anyways, hopefully they will see that the slightly lower grades were due to challenging myself? :) the only grades from senior yr they will see are 1st quarter, and i got all A's and A-'s. im soo sry for all of the rambling, im just a little paranoid after being just flat out rejected from a school so far.. :( but its ok.. as long as i can get into vassar!!!!

best of luck! and oh, send in a creative your space entry - while not sending it never hurts since it's optional, i think sending a good one can only help :)

thanks! i sent my app in the other day and for the your space thing, i sent in a picture of a painting that i did for a US history project. hopefully theyll like it?? lol i wonder what kind of stuff other ppl send in........

ha ha, yeah - it's pretty interesting, isn't it? at the chat, they said that this year they've received a shoe and also spaghetti sauce :D

so go figure how outrageous the entries can get! ;)

LOL wow!! well, idk if mine is THAT creative hahaha! i can understand the shoe ("shoe" in the door... ive heard of other ppl doing that at other schools) but spaghetti sauce?? wow lol :)

I remember when the vassar rep visited my school she told us about a guy who submitted a self-portrait made out of jelly beans! Ah, but he wasn't accepted because "he should have been studying!" Still a funny idea though.
I was going to do something pretty creative, but I didn't end up having the time so I just submitted my creative writing.

When I looked at Vassar, the representative said that for the Your Space section, one applicant cut it out and wrote "It's my space and I'm taking it with me!" I thought that was hilarious. But yeah, I submitted creative writing as well.

haha, that's quite funny. i just sent in this collage/booklet kinda thing with things like what i like and what i want to do, etc inside.

The rep that visited my school said that they get a ton of collages every year, so people should try sending something else in (if they haven't started something already).

yeah, i read that somewhere but sent one anyway :) - it was more of a booklet, perhaps. i mentioned that since i learned about vassar from their viewbook, they could learn a bit about me from this.
