Who is applying to Howard?

I haven't heard from NYU and i don't know much about the dorms at Howard. So no one has gotten a financial aid letter?

I called an got my financial aid. It does not look good

so u just call the school and ask to know your financial aid?

Well I'll call and ask. I'll be prepared to be defensive because sometimes you will end up talking to some of the nastiest, smart mouthed people straight out of Washington, D.C.

I am also going through the whole Hampton versus Howrd decision! I like Howard, because it is one of the best business schools in the country! Also I want to get into politics!!

Just a tip for you alll...
Call Howard and check the staus of your financial aid application. I decided to call about a week and 1/2 ago, and found out that I was selected for verification. I would have never known this if I didn't call, I just wouldn't have got a financial aid package.

What the hell is verification?

Basically...

If you're randomly selected for verification, then you have to send in all these extra forms. (Dependent Parent's Tax Returns/W2’s, copies of birth certificates/social security cards for everyone in your home) and you have to download this form off of their website and send it in as well.

The bad thing is that I've been selected for verification at like 4 of the 7 schools I applied to.

wow theres a whole world of Howard talk. I haven't been on here in the longest. last time I was debating Howard v. hampton. Well I choose the true HU , Howard. I just spent the wwek up here. I talked to people face to face and got information. they offered me the Legacy shcolarship, then I went to the shcool of businees , where I talked to the people and found out about he progam. It sounds great!! I be that if I stay in the SOB, i will end up w/ a great education and a good paying job. i ate the food on campus, wasnt that bad. then I talked to a man in housing, who told me that they wont do our rooms til , june. but I was allowed to put in a request of where I wanted to stay. Im debatinh wheter i should pick the annex or the quad. I alos went and looked at the rooms in the annex which was nice. I walked around the neighborhood with my brother, then I caught the metro to other parts of city, then later we drove to georgetown. basically in the three/four days i spen around howard u learned a wealth of info.... pretty sure i made the right choice

DID YOU ALREADY HAVE THE LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP? wHAT WAS YOUR FINANCIAL AID PACKET LIKE?

What about dorms for freshman males? Which is better?

yeah I have the legacy packet; they base the financial packet on the fafsa and your efc, then howard adds up the amount they think you'll spend at howard, a yr(based of off many things, i.e traveling back home, public transportation and the basics of room, tuiton, etc) then they add in scholarship and loans to see how much u will pay

as far as the dorms...u dont have a choice : drew is all freshman but I heard if u get lucky and they run out of space u get to stay in Carver w/ the upperclassmen which is a better dorm-----> but i heard all of this from a family friend who goes there

Yeah, so I'm a junior right now. I'll be applying for Fall 2007:).

I am a jr. in high school and howard is on my list. However, i want to major in engineering. Is Howard the right school?

of course...we're all there, it has to be the right place....j/k i would say find out more about the specific program ,and see what would best prepare you... where else r u considering?

Very new here…I didn’t even know this thread existed but…‘TIGER PRIDE’ you would advise someone to call Howard!?!! I applied to Howard and called to check the status of my application and about scholarships. The staff was not too friendly. The financial people left me on the verge of tears! And the admissions people went too friendly either. lol...but I must admit I called two days in succession. (I am and international student who apparently MUST have the financial statement before even being admitted and they choose to tell me on the 28th of April!! blame me for being concerned that it arrived!! I thought schools liked this enthusiasm?) but I wasn’t bordering on annoying or anything...I think! Anyways the admissions officer advised me kinda coldly that I called already yesterday, seemed reluctant to help and gave no common courtesies such as 'you're welcome!' I afraid to even call again!! You need to tell me who you’re talking to…but I must admit that they don’t go out of there way to tell students stuff…you know, the basics like… ‘you won’t be considered for admission unless you have the statement, no not even if you qualify for a scholarship, no not even if you wrote a letter about the subject before hand!!!!’

What country are you from and are you going to attend Howard?

My mom calls Howard almost everyday..whether it's about financial aid or something messed up in the admissions office. The key to when you call them is to get just as nasty on the phones as they are to you. Hell if you're not aggressive (but respectful), they figure they can talk to you anyway they want.

I'm from Trinidad and Tobago and i'm still not sure if I even got accepeted as yet. but me attending depends on weather i get a scholarship or not and this late its highly unlikely. mabyee 2007 Lol...and usually thats exactly how i am! you've got to be nasty to get what you want sometimes but other times you've gotta bend especially when you need a scholarship!! so i took it all...bad receptionist in first world countries too...who woulda though!

Are you planning to enroll at howard or are you already a student there? and what is your major?

I wanna know how my AP credits will transfer at Howard. Does anyone know when we find out?

I'm not sure. Unfortunately AP was a waste of time for me lol...It's like I could do decent in the class and sucked ass on the actual exam. But it's alright...
