Who is applying to Howard?

Where are the replies? Come on ..I need an answer =(

^^^You're definitely in....Most likely with a full scholarship...Congrats!!!

You did a great job raising your GPA!!! That's commendable. KUDOS!!! And, yes, you should mention modeling-its a talent and a gift that you have so mention it.

FYI a close friend of my daughter's was accepted at Howard for the fall with an adequate Financial Aid package. But in July, they asked for a chunk of cash that couldn't come out of her financial aid for some reason and she was unable to come up with the money. So she can't go. She was accepted at some other terrific schools (University of Chicago, De Paul, Temple) and although some of them were willing to take her even at this late date, they couldn't offer her on campus housing. She' only 17 so nobody will rent an apartment to her. As it turns out, she's going to have to go to her local Junior College and live at home. What a heartbreaker!

That's terrible! So she didn't go to a real college, simply because she couldn't afford it? This is a perfect example of how ridiculous our system is. Did she apply for a lot of scholarships? Did she apply for any loans from the bank?

:( ..I hope that doesn't happen to me, I do NOT come from a wealthy family. Where I come from, cell phones with plans are big time purchases, lol. And I don't even have a cell phone.

What do you think my chances are at Howard?

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/howard-university/550196-what-my-chances-howard-honest.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/howard-university/550196-what-my-chances-howard-honest.html</a></p>

your ACT score is higher than the majority of incoming freshman..u should get in easily and concerning cross country you should be able to "walk on" to the team. Meaning you contact the coach soon with your times and setup a tryout. Howard gives very few merit scholarships, so good luck!

Yea I'm bout to apply to Howard. Its a match for me and it might be a top 3 choice for me. But I have a question: How much does Howard give out for fin.aid. There endowment seems to be good (a little bit over half a billion).

I got into to Howard my senior year but I wasn't able to because my lost her job a month before I was supposed to go. I was sick too. I'm applying as a transfer student this year. Did anyone on here transfer to howard?

Hey walcott0108 good luck, I'm applying as a transfer as well. I haven't heard anything yet, but when I hear anything I'll post it.

Check out Howard's web site on Financial Aid. My daughter initally recieved a Capstone scholarship, which was based on SAT=1300 - 1390 or ACT = 29 - 31 PA ≥ 3.25. This included Tuition, Fees, and Room and requires maintaining a 3.0 gpa.

After she became a National Achievement Finalist, the scholarship bumped up to Laureate which is based on National Achievement Finalist Scholars who designate Howard as their First Choice. This includes tuition, fees, room and board and $950 book allowance and requires maintaining a 3.3 gpa.

That being said, there are other flavors of scholarships.

Now once there, Howard had a welcome ceremony for incoming freshman scholarhsip winners. It was published that 25% of the incoming class of 1700 recieved scholarships. However, as I look through the program, it looks like more than 425 students recieved scholarships lol. The young women stay in the newest dorm. Kinda nice.

She also received an invitation to the Honors program, which she took advantage of and has even more opportunities.

Finally, you ask..does she like it? The answer is a big resounding yes. She is happy and thriving.

One word of caution. Make sure you visit to make sure this is the right choice for you.

Good luck

Thanks I am legend. I hope I get in. This is my number one choice out of all the schools I applied to. I'll do the same too.

I'm applying EA because I participated in the Summer Actuarial Science Program over the summer and have guarantied admission.
