Who is still deciding between UCLA and Cal?

@lindyk8
Cal says only 60% of transfer students graduate within 2 years, I doubt UCLA would be any different.

@bomerr
Why do you think it takes longer than 2 years?
I really want to graduate on time (which for me is 2 years)…

Come on guys, just go to Cal, it’s a no-brainer!!! ^:)^

@‌AnthroFlo

1 would probably be the students.

I know someone who i took general geology together last year and he was struggling HARD, he got a C in the class, but he still got into UCLA Poli Sci with a 3.5x because of TAP + ECs. The problem is he is 100% academically under qualified and he’ll struggle at ANY university he attends, especially at UCLA. I’d guess 1/4 to maybe 1/3rd of the students at UCLA/Cal are academically under qualified so that’d explain the largest reason people stay longer than 2 years.

2 would be majors.

Certain majors have harsh curves. I’ve heard that less than half the people who transfer into pre-Biz-Econ actually make it into the major. Plus some majors have strict requirements and if someone didn’t complete an articulate math sequence or science sequence they’d need to finish that at UCLA.

3 some people just want to stay longer than 2 years.

@bomerr‌ I think you nailed it. Humanities should be easier, it would seem. And I wondered about those people who slid into a UC, getting barely over the minimum GPA to qualify for TAP or TAG. I was thinking earlier, it’ll be a rude awakening for them.

So ,if you need an extra quarter, does that mean you have to wait two more quarters for a graduation ceremony?

@bomerr‌, well, that quote about UCLA does say the “average student”, so you could have that chunk hovered at 4 years and 1 quarter, with the rest wildly all over the place. It is conveniently pretty vague.

Also @AnthroFlo‌, assuming you have a strong GPA from CC, your IGETC is complete and most of your req are done, you should be on schedule for about two years because you’re anthropology.

I don’t know why I’ve been told it takes 3 years, but I only need 17 classes for my major and a minor at UCLA. That’s less than 3 classes a quarter, and I’d probably take 4 anyways.

Well, I hope that anyone that was undecided has now made up their mind. The deadline is only two days away.

Nope, I haven’t made up my mind. :/

@CSB111‌ I was thinking about it and you actually may have gotten correct info. I was looking at stats for the four year student. There are probably a lot of transfers that need to make up classes they didn’t get complete.

BTW, where did you SIR?

I really hope you guys sent in your transcripts and other stuff!

@CSB111 @AnthroFlo.
Are you guys still deciding?

@ocnative I’m so worried for them!

thinking of retracting from UCLA…

Do it if you think you’d regret UCLA.

I rush sent my transcript earlier this week to UCLA, so no worries.

I haven’t SIRd but I’m pretty sure I’m picking UCLA.

@CSB111‌

Yeah, double-majoring at UCLA should be easier for you than at Berkeley. Go to UCLA. :)

I just don’t know if I really want to go up North, I live close, I can get internships here without the hassle of moving back and forth. I think they are close enough where the ranking isn’t a huge deal either.

@CSB111‌

Definitely. It’s not like you’re choosing between Berkeley and a cal-state school. Berkeley/UCLA ranking differences are pretty small most of the time, plus, you’re learning the same stuff at either school.

@Cayton

Yes, I’ve been told by people that are in the field I want to go into from UCLA and they said it doesn’t matter, except if I wanted to go to New York. Like I said the Cal name is something I like, but I get one opportunity to have a true undergrad experience, and I just don’t want to risk being miserable/overloaded at Berkeley.
