Intrigued by SU.Seems like picture perfect college very under the radar.
Anyone else have this school under consideration? What other schools?
Thanks.

My son is a sophomore there. I would summarize the school as follows:

Pro’s–Class size capped at 35 and usually below 20; strong interaction with faculty; lovely campus with excellent facilities; very friendly, informal atmosphere; strong programs in business, creative writing, education, communications, music and other areas; lower costs than schools closer to cities; strong study abroad program; very high 4 year graduation rate; lots of activities for students on campus.

Con’s–Very rural; limited name recognition; little racial or religious diversity (although welcoming to all); the rigorous workload will surprise some students, given its not being very selective in admissions.

I will behappy to answer any questions.

yabeyabe2 - What is your son studying? My daughter is interested in the creative writing program.

Do they have a strong residence life program and does the campus stay active on the weekends?

I would appreciate any thoughts you’d be willing to share about student life outside of the classroom at Susquehanna!

Hi. If you look at the “applying to Susquehanna” thread on this forum (which, unfortunately only appears if you search for threads from the past year) poster Singledad has written about his son’s freshman year in the Creative Writing program–as I recall, he was very positive about everything except the food. Here is a link http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/susquehanna-university/1163537-applying-susquehanna-3.html

My son is a communciations major.

The school has a lot going on on weekends–I wish my son would try more things, but he has a strong group of friends. There are a great many clubs, events, trips, intramural sports, etc. Kids also go to a nearby movie theater. I understand from singledad’s postings that the Creative Writing major has its own building (not a dorm), which would seem to foster community.

We like Susquehanna, and so did ourDS. He is interested in Biology and writing.

Thank you!

My son applied to Susquehanna - and has now withdrawn his application as he was accepted at his ED school. I just have to say that Susquehanna was a lovely surprise - we were so impressed with the school - the campus and facilities - and most of all the level of personal attention. Having gone through this process with two boys - having visited 20+ colleges - and having submitted 12+ applications between the two of them - Susquehanna absolutely came in first place for the level of personal attention. Just today we rcvd a holiday card from the regional rep. I have found top level people - the head of admissions - the head of financial aid - to be extremely easy to reach and very warm and friendly. I would highly recommend SU to anyone who is looking for a small school environment. Truly a hidden gem.

Anyone hear from Early Decision at SU?

Yes, we heard on 12/15, have you not heard yet?

Just have to add that S2 received a very nice letter from the head of admissions today acknowledging that he had withdrawn his application and wishing him well. It was a very nice touch and Susquehanna continues to impress me with the level of personal attention and warmth it consistently conveys.
