Huzzah for not applying in-state. Plenty of great schools in Texas, but I’ve spent more than enough time here. I’m going in search of somewhere with snow! (which I’m sure to get sick of pretty quick)

Incidentally, I’ve noticed that everyone who’s lived here their whole life wants to get out, while people who lived elsewhere for a while usually are more interested in staying close.

Im from FL and while I LOVE my homestate so much, I am applying everywhere but here. Experience something new and meet a new face of America. =)

I’m from Richmond, California - about 5 miles north of my father’s alma mater, UC Berkeley. But I never even looked at them because they don’t have my major. I could have applied to one of the flagship CSUs (San Francisco State) but I don’t want to commute. I want out of the house So I applied to an out-of-region CSU (Chico) and then lots of other Western publics (Northern Arizona, Mesa State, SDakSU, USDak, Boise State, UIdaho, UA-Anchorage) and will be attending the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Way far from home :)

I’m from Anchorage, Alaska, and I’m getting out of here ASAP. Anchorage is okay-great even at times, considering I’ve lived here all my life, but I just need change. Fairbanks is not an option for me either- too cold, too middle-of-nowhere-a 5 hour drive from the nearest city. Good for you, FCYTravis-and hope you don’t mind the occasional -40 degree winter day. There’s quite a few people from the Lower 48 who come up here in search of something different- trust me, It’ll be different- but you might love it. Really beautiful northern lights up there, though.

I really don’t where I go as far as location- I’m looking at schools in California, Michigan, Boston, and Washington D.C. But mainly, somewhere that’s going to be different than Alaska, not surprisingly.

I love NYC, but my parents would show up 24/7 at my dorm room considering all the colleges in NYC are under 30 minutes on the train..lol That is why I have chosen to leave this great city to attend a school where the cows roam , Ithaca , NY..lol

I didn’t apply to any schools in my home state of Michigan. Yea, don’t slam me I know there are good schools here, but hardly anyone leaves Michigan and I don’t want a continuation of high school.

I’m not applying to any SUNY’s either. My sister is going to Northwestern now, and she feels it was one of her greatest decisions to go to the Midwest, and definitely experience somewhat of a culture shock, and certainly a new lifestyle.

I am crowded by over 10-15 universities in a 10 mile radius of my home. If anyone even suggests applying to anyone of those schools I just laugh in their face. The only school I applied to in my state was Penn State, then every other school I applied to, I need an airplane to get there. THANK GOD.

Well…I don’t really refuse to go to college in Vermont, I’m applying to UVM but it’s tied as my last choice because I’ve lived 15 minutes away from it my entire life…it’s just too close to home for me.

For all of you in CAlifornia or florida or places with nice weather year round, I don’t know why you all complain, but I’m getting out of New Jersey as fast as possible. The closest school I considered was PSU which is over 3 hours away from me, then California, Florida and Chicago, I have to get out of here.

I’m from Maryland and can’t wait to get out!
I’ve always believed in going out of state for college, so only one school on my list is in MD - Hood College, my safety.

MD has some awesome schools (JHU, Salisbury, Villa Julie, etc) but it’s just not the environment I want to continue to grow in.

My list consists of schools mostly in New York and California, with one in Massachusetts and one in Minnesota. I’m so excited!

I agree. Snow is not as awesome as you think. It’s awful to shovel, awful to drive in, and over time just becomes awesome to look at. If you go to a northern university, you’ll be excited for about the first 2 days of snow. After that, you’ll be wishing you had 60 degree winters again.

university of kentucky [according to my counselor, a top 50 school! I actually have a somewhat tempting scholarship offer…]
university of louisville [according to my counselor, a top 25 school!]

eastern kentucky university
western kentucky university

transylvania college [also pretty decent, maybe?]
