Who said the Pac-10 is a weak conference?

I have my own opinions so don't tell me what I can and cannot say. I still think it was a bad call. If he had any faith in the Defense, he would've just done a normal kickoff, so whatever!

a lot of mistakes were made yesterday. we should not have missed that easy field goal in the first quarter. we shouldve gotten in on 1st and goal on the 1. we shouldve stopped them at least once in their two 4th and goals. onsides kick was a big mistake. there were still 2 mins left and we had 2 timeouts left. biggest mistake of all was trying to be vince young and thinking he can run for the touchdown. that being said, i think our defense did pretty well overall. much better than the previous games.

I think Cal is going to cream UCLA, or "handily beat them." Assuming they don't fold like Mich did after App. State. I think Cal will beat USC, so I guess that means ASU will be their toughest game. But we have ASU's number, just like OSU had ours. I think Oregon will beat ASU, however. Basically, it's wide open. I would be absolutely shocked if every team did not lose at least one more game from here on out. Good news is, RB committee would love to have Cal, since they've had ASU, Oregon, and USC fairly recently-or at least in the last 40 years.

anyways, lavelle hawkins was a monster yesterday, but where were desean jackson and craig stevens at?!

Cal sits at #12 in the first BCS poll.

Other noteables:
1 Ohio State
2 South Florida
3 BC
4 LSU
5 Oklahoma
8 Arizona St.
9 Oregon
14 USC

One of the analysts on FOX noted that the year that LSU made it to the national championship, they were #12 in the first BCS poll of the year.

I do think this is pretty ridiculous though. Ohio State and BC both have had pretty easy schedules, and Ohio St. doesn't look to have a very tough schedule from here on out. They might just breeze into the national championship.

I'm all for the underdog, but I don't see how SF is #2. The teams in their conference are having bad years. Top 10? Maybe. But I'd like to see them stay undefeated through 7 games in the Pac-10 or SEC. I mean, c'mon, they're playing Central Florida!!! I was shocked that BC wasn't #2. At least they've beaten, and play, some truly competitive opponents.

I agree about OSU, but I think they're gonna choke in the Big House this year.

Oregon will beat USC
USC will beat California.
Oregon and Cali. and USC will beat Arizona State

My predictions :D

Riley didn't lose the game for Cal. The defense did!!! OSU had their way with the d-line. You can't expect to be the top team in the country with a defense that can't stop the run and gives up big plays on 3rd down.

That kid has some great potential. He will learn and grow from that mistake. The chances for a Rose Bowl berth are looking slim....

Sheed: I agree, I think OR will beat USC, but I think Cal will beat SC, esp. bc it's at Berkeley, and the law of averages says that if they can beat OR, they will beat USC. Besides, they haven't beaten SC in a while, so it's their turn now. I also think ASU will get beaten by those three teams. So now it comes down to Cal and OR tying for the Pac-10 championship, with Cal going to the RB because of head-to-head competition (same deal as SC and Cal last year). But it's open right now, so we'll see.

college: Chances of Cal's RB berth are just as good as anyone else's right now.

This may be absolutely crazy but what if Cal wins out, I think they have a pretty good argument for NC game. I would love to win out and that way we can have just as good of a chance as anyone. Hopefully what happens is Cal wins out, OSU loses to Michigan, that leaves a ton of 1 loss teams the likes of OSU, Oklahoma, LSU, BC hopefully, and then South Florida possibly undefeated. This type of situation would definitely bring some serious discussion for a playoff system and end the mess that is the BCS.

Damn, better watch out for UCLA next week. Since we beat OSU it's only safe to assume we will beat you guys since you just lost to them.

Hahahahaha, sorry j/k. Embarrassing loss, tho, no worries, we've had our fair share..

If Longshore is healthy, along with everyone else, and the defense steps up then I think Cal can run the table. Hopefully this loss would be the "silly" loss Cal seems to have each year. We'll see...

Coming off a bye week can be a struggle to overcome. Cal will face UCLA and ASU coming out of bye weeks. Hopefully, Cal catches them napping.

I think Cal's toughest game will be ASU. USC just looks terribly sluggish. It appears that Stanfuurd loss didn't wake them up. I think Cal wants to prove to the nation how good they really are, so UCLA game we should (hopefully) win. ASU will decide the Rose Bowl, IMO.

Even if SF goes undefeated, there are many one-loss teams with much tougher weekly schedules. They would deserve a BCS berth, but not in the NC game.

Last year, when the first BCS rankings were issued, LSU was #12. Cal is #12 this year.

I don't really care about the NCG, I want Cal to go to the Rose Bowl.

CBS Sportsline projected two Pac-10 teams in BCS Bowls:
Oregon vs. Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl (That would be a fun rematch on a neutral site)
Cal vs. West Virginia in the Rose Bowl

UCBChem:

Methinks nearly all alums want to see the Rose Bowl. But, Hawaii is the wild-card with regards to two Pac10 teams in the BCS, IMO. If UH continues to win (light schedule), they might move up into at least 12th place (computers love wins) which will guarantee them a BCS bid.

^ Yeah, Sportsline has Hawaii projected in the Sugar Bowl against Florida.

The Rose Bowl has so much tradition...I love a Pac-10/Big 10 matchup.

But, it's too early for these projections.

honestly, i don't think the national title game has any legitimacy whatsoever if there's no playoff system put in place to really come up with a head to head match up of teams. ohio state got smashed on last year, and that battle was supposed to be "epic"

There may be too many games, but i think colleges should just play less preseason games and figure out some play off system where rankings creat a top 16 or 32 teams to play off. make the 4 big BCS bowls (RB, Sugar Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl) semi-finals on January 1st, and finals in a different location each year to decide the national title, on january 8th.

other than that, i like the traditional system as well pac-10/big 10.

by pre-season i mean non-conference games.

I think a playoff seems more fair, but totally unrealistic. It would take the mystery out of college football, so that each game would, in reality, not matter as much. Cal wouldn't fight as hard against SC if they knew they were going to have to go through a playoff anyway. Teams push themselves to the limit because, as Eminem says, "you only get one shot...this opportunity comes once in a lifetime." Every game right now DOES matter. I think that would be taken away a little bit through a playoff.
