Holy moly, LSU LOST!!!! wohhhhhhooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, GO BEARS!!!

just make sure you guys dont lose or win ugly. =)

Season Is Officially Down The Drain
Stupid Squib Kick
Stupid Fumble
Tedford Sure Knows How To Call Dem Plays

That was an unfortunate way to end the game. We definitely had overtime...Kevin Riley just got caught up in the moment. It's a long season and we've still go the Rose Bowl (at least) in sights.

What the hell? Why not spike it and kick the ****ing field goal?!?! God, I hate how we always fold when it matters the most.

The reason why we ultimately lost is Cal's defense could not stop Yvenson Bernard. The Beavs seem like a one man team with that guy.

A lot of people have said that Kevin Riley tried to do too much on that play (i.e., he wanted to be the hero.)

I actually thought that it was more of: the pressure got to him, and he forgot what the situation was, so he went for it having lost sight of the clock and time-out situation. Sort of a Chris Webber mistake.

I guess we won't know until Riley/Tedford says something, but I thought that possibly might be better assessment of the situation. Still very depressing though. Could have been #1...

Never mind. Looks like it was just bad decision making.

yeah, couldda, wouldda, shouldda. suddenly Cal and ASU's roles are reversed. who wouldda thought lol?

I think Riley just mis-judged the situation, which comes from lack of experience. He didn't realize how fast the linebackers were, and made the wrong call by trying to run 15 yards toward the end-zone.

Could someone explain to me why they didn't put Longshore in during the second half though? If he was splitting snaps this week and was suited up, he obviously could have played, though probably not at 100%. But still, he is more experienced in pressure-situations, and would not have made that mistake at the end. He relies much more on upper body strength than legs, anyway.

Hmm, lets see, there was about 42 seconds to go into halftime, Tedford elected for a squib kick with us up by 4, hmm, what happened next, they got the momentum and scored a fieldgoal. I wonder what wouldve happened if we just kicked the ball normally and stopped them.... WHAT THE **** TEDFORD, WHAT THE ****!

i hear from a guy who knows the team manager, all though longshore was taking snaps, he couldn't pivot and couldn't do hitches and was basically tied to quick pass/pistol plays and such and wasn't @ 100%
still tho, i think adrenaline would've helped the pain...you play through pain..but then again risks are bigger in college.

horrible loss though. lavelle was open in the endzone on that last one...sux

wow, don't even tell me about "Riley's lack of experience". A Pop Warner child knows not to run the ball when you have 14 seconds left with to timeouts left. We could have easily won this had Longshore played.

well it certainly would be better than having oregon state scoring a TD off the return wouldnt it?

a squib kick is used to prevent a potential kick-off return. there are also other reasons why he called it: 1) one of the LBs pick up and try to out run the coverage (not going to happen) 2) erratic bouncing is harder to pick up which gives the coverage more time to get to the ball carrier

i dont think it was a bad call. with the kick-off moved 5 yards back its more likely that the returning team will get a big return.

and one more thing: dont yell or curse at coach tedford. hes one of the best play-callers in the league and has brought cal back to the top ranks of college football. be grateful you have a coach like that. i wish we could mix up ucla's offense a bit more other than run-run-pass-punt.

ya, tedford made some bad calls. but he's definitely the best thing that's happened to cal football since Pappy Waldorf (or w/e his name was).

i don't like his constant fascination with screens. i hate screen plays, they only work in the NFL with tough ass receivers and super fast linemen, and a qb who's got more of a bullet. but still, the loss was the whole teams, oregon state definitely showed up to play.

wow, the Pac-10 is so wide open right now it's almost insane.

Tedford is still my hero, he didn't make the best calls, but he knows the situations better than any of us.

riley pretty much proved that Cal's academic qualifications for football players are declining...very painfully declining.

ORegon is winning it all! Write me down for that....

vc08:

I thought Riley played exceptionally well until that last play. Just like Syd Thompson chasing air in last year's Tennessee game, these youngsters do what comes naturally and what they've done for four years easily in HS. But, the D1 level is just a lot faster.

As Al Maguire used to say: "the only thing good about freshmen is that they become sophomores."

Well we're tied for 9th in the Coaches' Poll and 10th in the AP. I see the winner of Cal/USC jumping over Oregon and being the favorite to go to the Rose

I don't know. The way Cal's defense was yesterday, I think we need to worry about UCLA before we even think about Cal/USC. Besides, there is ASU right after UCLA, and ASU is smoking hot right now.
