My school requires me to get two teacher recommendations for college admissions. They say that I should ask core subject teachers from this year that know me very well. I already have my sights on one teacher (my math teacher.) However, none of the rest of my core subject teachers (in my opinion) know me well. However, I have one teacher (a robotics teacher) who knows me very well. He qualifies as a “math teacher” (since he teaches computer science), but I don’t know if I should ask him for a formal recommendation because he was not my teacher from this year. Help??
I would not get two recommendations from the same subject area. Usually a student would get LORs from a STEM teacher and one humanities teacher.
Not the best advice, but I’ve heard of people writing their own recommendations and sending it to their teachers to make sure it sounds authentic and accurate. It has worked and it is a smart way to point out things you want colleges to focus on. Also, having two math teachers give recommendations isn’t bad, as long as you want colleges to know you want a future in math (or STEM) and your grades show that you are well-rounded in school.
