For UC College reccomendations, I understand that we need 3, correct? Do all three have to be from teachers? Can they also be from your community service supervisors?

UC? You mean University of California?

I don't think you need a single recommendation for UCs...unless I've totally misunderstood the question.

Tako is correct. The University of California does not accept recommendations, whether from teachers or others, except in a few select instances.

When colleges do ask for recommendations, they usually as for two types: from teachers who have taught you in core academic subjects (preferrably in the 11th or 12th grade) and a recommendation from your guidance counselor. Always be sure to send exactly the type of recommendation the college asks for.

If you want to send an additional recommendation from someone else, the best rule of thumb is to make sure that the person will add some IMPORTANT insight about you to your application file that admissions readers won't find elsewhere. It is wise, however, to limit supplemental recommendations, and only send them if absolutely necessary.

But, for the University of California -- no recommendations required. Just your essays. A good source of information about applying to the UC system is www.ucop.edu/pathways

I think the OP is talking about the University of Chicago (commonly referred to as UC, confused with the University of California).

If you are talking about Chicago, then know that there are three rec's required: two from your teachers (one from a English/social science teacher, one from a math/science teacher) and one from your counselor.

If you are talking about California, then I'd tell you to relax, 'cause UC doesn't require recs and actually throws them away if you send them. =)

Yes, I was talking about the University of California. LOL.

Thanks for your guys' input =D. I feel so relieved now because I thought that you needed recs for UCs.
