To students who have visited MHC,

I guess I won't have the chance to visit MHC, yet I really want to hear about the anecdotes or stories from the visitors!

Anyone?
I read about that MHC got many interesting traditions

Well, I go there, and when I did visit, it was pretty amazing... all of my international friends who weren't able to visit also love it very much. So good choice you've made!

Not an int'l here, but before my D even applied, we visited. The minute she stepped on campus she turned to me and said, "I just found my home for the next 4 years!"

It's a beautiful place, with fantastic teachers and facilities.

One downfall (maybe) is the lack of any type of off campus town within walking distance, so it's more difficult to get off campus to do something fun. 40 minutes by bus to the village of Amherst, a bit longer to the even better (my opinion) village of Northampton. Obviously closer by car, but my D doesn't have one.

yes I'm so looking forward to Mount Holyoke, I'm applying for ED II

What are the ways can we have fun out there on and off campus? Is off campus job easily available nearby if one looks forward to work?

There might be some waitressing available off campus but not much else in South Hadley. Best bet for work is on campus probably in connection with financial aid.

Fun? Well, you can go to Tower Theaters in the Village Commons for movies, but to tell you the truth, most people go out of South Hadley for "fun".

There's a newly opened movie theater in Amherst, and there's the Pleasant Street Theater in Northampton. Most times, to get to Northampton, you need to transfer. It's very rare when you don't, but it's still really worth it if you don't want to feel stuck in the college bubble. It's also a really, really, really quick transfer. For food, in Northampton, you can go to "Bueno Y Sano" (cheap, good Mexican food) or Haymarket for food. You can go to Thorns if you want to go shopping (independent shops, generally cheap clothing).

Amherst, people go to for food. You can go have basically any type of food in Amherst and a lot of it is good (& again, cheap!).

As for off-campus jobs, you're going to need to look at jobs as a waitress or maybe somewhere in the commons. The Village Commons = always hiring, but I'm not sure how comfortable you'd be working there.

Good luck and welcome to Mt. Holyoke. :-) See you next year!

thanks for info

hey, I want to hear about the elfing, how is it like? it sounds so sweet and cute

elfing is a really fun and nice activity. This year it happened sometime in early october. When you wake up monday morning you find little gifts outside your door for you and your room mate. This happens every day for the whole week and on thursday night you finally meet you elf at a "special m&cs". Also your elfs ( sophomores) will hang up magazine pictures all over the dorm with your name on it. It will say things like " your name is hot" or other nice things that are very flattering to wake up to in the morning. These are posted on all the floors of the building and they are very entertaining to read.

Wow! Sounds like so much fun and exciting...
