I hate when ppl in my classes say that they want to be a doctor even though they have like a 3.0 weighted gpa. it gets on my nerves.

kirklandalanbob, either way, I really wouldn't want to be any type of doctor. I guess I thought about surgeons because they make the most money haha.

I'm not good at Chemistry, Latin, or Anatomy which are some more reasons that I don't want to be one.

I've had As in Chemistry and Latin and am on track an already for an A in Anatomy:)

i could never become a doctor. Anatomy is for me and I am doing horribly in the class. I can't stand doing the homework..if I eat rght before doing it I will throw up because I cant stand talking about such topics.

I actually envy people like you guys who can do that stuff because it s a great job. Good Luck with med school everyone!

lol ya the people with the weighted 3.0's are funny,....well son u better pull your act together if you want to be a doctor

^yeah...but they can still do it....like if they are just slacking off now

well...i really want to become a doctor so that after a certain point (when maybe i have earned enough to support my family and i have enough experience, ) i want to open a free clinic somewhere...not in america..definitely not..just because of the insurance thing...its disgusting that we cant even take care of our own people...anyway..back to my point..i want to be a doctor so i can go and help people who really need it...and also because i just love anatomy and seeing how all this stuff works...good stuff..:D

And not to sound racist or anything, but nearly every asian or asian indian person I have met says they want to be a doctor, probably due to parental brainwashing for the money.
[/quote]

i kind of agree on you with that....but i think its changing a bit now...i know what you mean though...until like 2 years ago i didnt even realize that i had so many options..i pretty much figured that i had to pick between being a doctor, engineer , or a lawyer...but on the other hand, i friend of mine who is asian said that he will never become a doctor because that is what all asians do and he doesnt want to be part of the stereotype..i think that is really stupid because you should follow what your passion is and not worry about other people's....ok im done..

Yeah actually most asians I have met fit that stereotype except for a select few. I know like, 20 that are going to do what they want and their parents completely respect that.

What's wrong with doing it for the money? I'd rather receive treatment from a good doctor who does it for the money than a bad doctor who does it to help people. But maybe that's just me.

^ What makes a good doctor good and a bad doctor bad? Is it not compassion? Or is it merely education?

Other than your primary care physician compassion is really not necessary. And even then it is not really needed. So education, judgement and experience are probably the factors that affect whether a doctor is good or not. Not whether he/she wants to help people. IMO, helping people is no better a reason to be a doctor than for the Dr. or for the money. But of course everybody will poopoo on me now.

"Other than your primary care physician compassion is really not necessary."
I'd like to see you give this response at a med school interview haha

And for the rest of you, you'll be thankful that so many people are premed once you get to college. Someone has to make up the bottom part of the curve.

I'm not dumb enough to say that in an interview. But still, look in your heart, you know it to be true.

^Makshim, I would never want people like you as my doctor... (that is if you ever become a doctor)

I never said those are the reasons I want to be a doctor, just that they are as valid as any others. Oh and me? Become a doctor? That I can promise you.

My reason for becoming a doctor just happens to be my desire to help the underpriveleged in NYC, but this is no better a reason than $$$... Which I won't be making that much of in primary care. I don't know why noone wants to admit it. But compassion IS NOT that important.

So do you guys think the medical field will become even more competitive when we apply for medical school or has it always been very competitive?

But compassion IS NOT that important.

Do you think medical schools will accept murderors...

From your statement, one could assume all who are not compassionate are murderers. Murderers are not compassionate, but I don't believe it works the other way around.

please don't make stupid assumptions like that... I was merely giving an example of a person without compassion

Wow strong misleading example. Medical schools wouldn't accept murderers not because they aren't compassionate but because they are criminals. Let's make a deal. You take the compassionate doctors, I'll take the educated ones. I'll get the right treatment, you can have someone feel sorry for you.
