My school doesn’t pay for self-studies :(

I have sent so much money to the college board. 4 SATs (one of them may have been paid for by my school), 11 AP tests, ending scores to like 9 colleges, 6 SAT Subject tests (actually 8, since I paid for two I didn’t take).

And tomorrow, they’re killing me with French.

raises hand

(my school pays for SOME exams, though)

Yay! Lets create a mob to kill CollegeBoard! I agree with 2Chillaxin who made a brilliant rant. I’m paying for 4 AP’s and I’m only a sophomore!

…the eff. I just realized our high school adds in an additional $4 to each AP exam. Those of you that have your school cover costs are so lucky. -_-

The only thing my school payed for was my sophomore year PSAT…so I’ll demolish College Board w/ you (b/c of all the money I have to spend…)

Let’s see…my SATs/Subject tests and 10-11 APs…yup I think I’m over a $1000…I think most people are over $1000 :(

Oh, dear. And what about families with more than one child taking AP exams/SATs?

My school didn’t allow me to qualify for the reduced fee for AP exams, which is $20. If you’re an only child, your family has to make less than 20-25K in order to get the reduced fee, no exceptions. I’m not rich and I had to pay for 3 SAT II’s, 2 SAT I’s, and 4 AP’s this year alone. With another SAT I, 5 AP’s, and sending scores next year, I’ll end up spending slightly under $1000. D:

It cost me $180 dollars to have them send an EMAIL with SAT scores earlier this year. EMAILS can be sent for free, like really? Then spending an additional $400 on AP tests, and a total of over $300 on taking SATs. Ridiculous that I have to spend so much in order to be able to spends $36000 a year on college. Dirt bags.

Whoa whoa whoa…you guys are serious. lol don’t laugh at my naivety, but before I saw this thread I honestly assumed the AP exams were free. !!!..What…!!!

^ Haha… I wish AP’s were free but CollegeBoard rips off so many average-income families. Its quite ridiculous actually!

Wow, I’m still in shock that other schools actually pay for your AP tests or give deep discounts.

And here I am paying $90, even more than the original cost. This is insanity.

I think I’ve already paid over $1000 to the CB. More to come soon. Joy. -_-

“not for profit”

what does that even mean? Why isn’t it non-profit?

^ Non profit means that they can stick a .org after their website
And that when they get surplus money (after they’ve paid the people who make the test, the administrators, the graders, the owners, etc.) they do not give the money to themselves (the owners) personally, they use it to further the goals of collegeboard.

I paid $0! Hooray unemployed parent! But that excuse is not going to last forever, so I’m so looking forward to next year, when I’ll be paying for the PSAT, 2 SATs, 3 SAT IIs, and 2 APs! And then even better, senior year! I’ll be struggling to cover college application/enrollment fees and 7 of these darned tests that I’m probably going to bomb anyway!

It has received a significant amount of criticism.

I should apply for fee waivers… but I’m a bit too embarrassed to.

Besides… I’m only taking two exams.

What qualifies for a fee waiver anyways?

@AUGirl - I’ve always been embarrassed to ask for fee waivers and stuff, but I’ve just learned to deal with it. It’s not your fault if your parents don’t make enough or that the College Board overcharges. Fee waivers are given to kids in low income families, which varies district to district. You don’t have to be impoverished or something to qualify - all it took was a simple email from mum to my college counselor and I got the test for free. :D

I know what non profit means

I just find it fishy that the college board calls itself “not for profit” instead of non-profit. Why is this?

i used fee waivers this year too, but seriously… $90 is crazy.
