Well she probably wasn’t involved with her ECs at all then and just lied about them in her app. People do that a lot. I think the admissions officers know that all of those numbers we put in about our ECs are estimations. If you are committed to ECs and there’s evidence of that through your high school acheivement, then they are not going to nitpick either.

Thanks a lot maani, that’s very reassuring. I appreciate it.

@laodicean: Can you provide us with a link to that article? I am always looking for articles regarding admissions (ex. that Christian Science Monitor one was a good read). Of course, I highly recommend taking every article with a grain (or many grains ) of salt. But, it’s just nice to gain some insight/perspective.

It’s somewhere in here:

[In or Out: Inside College Admissions - TIME](http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,57724,00.html)

The 1 min. 42 secs. referred to the time the committee considered the application before a final decision, not the amount of time an admissions officer spends reading the file. And given that there are now more than twice as many ED applicants than there were when that article was published (over 4,500 now compared to 2,166 then), I can’t imagine that the committee spends more time considering each applicant now than it did then.

However, the Admissions Office has its system down pretty well, and knows how to process large quantities of applications. Part of that is the system of regional admissions officers, who get to know the high schools in their regions fairly well and probably spend the most time with the applications from their regions. I suspect that they have signficant input into the final decisions on the applications from their respective regions, so the few minutes spent in the admissions committee’s consideration isn’t as arbitrary as it might initially seem.

And also, December 9th hasn’t yet been confirmed by the Admissions Office. But it should be notifying ED applicants of the decision date and time soon–probably by the end of next week.

I know this is quite delayed, but I applied ED to CAS. (On October 14th)
(Intending on math major, but probably will end up changing that)
Did the optional essay, por supuesto.
Absolutely in love with Penn, would be immensely thankful to get in.
So no numeric value will do a justice.

Baltimore, Maryland

Good luck to everyone.
Is Dec. 9th still probable?

Pardon how sporadic and jumpy that was.

Haha there’s a lot of stuff in that arti le that freaks me out about my application so I’m going to stop reading it.

That December 9th date is derived from hearsay from an interview. Supposedly the person was told by the interviewer that the interviewer was told the release date could possibly be December 9th. As much as I would loooooooove that date to no end, it seems a little soon to me. I would love for them to get it out at the end of that week but there is a ridiculous amount of apps they need to pour over and they might need the extra 6 days.

Well no, on their website the tentative date is December 9th and the Admissions rep told me that at an info session in Baltimore. He said “we’re trying our best to stick to the 9th.” So they definitely intend on the ninth, I was just wondering if it seemed to still be on track.

Last year the date was Friday, December 10th, with roughly the same number of apps. So Friday, December 9th this year is not unrealistic.

Oh I’m sorry, I was just going off of CC lol, probs should check the Penn website more often than I check CC. I mean I can think of nothing else that would have thrown them off track

Em, can you post a link to the page that says the tentative date is December 9th? All I can find is “middle of December.” Thanks!

[Penn Plan Online](<a href=“Submit My Documents | Penn Student Registration & Financial Services| Penn Srfs”>Submit My Documents | Penn Student Registration & Financial Services| Penn Srfs)

that’s where the admissions counselor told me to check for the date when I emailed him a few months ago.

And @ RyanM. I have the same problem, and my post wasn’t supposed to sound “OH NO! @$##@$” I was being enthusiastic. For example “Oh no! It may be an actual possibility” sorry I sounded flippant."

Well we get an exact date from the e-mail, we should have a COUNTDOWN. I have always stalked other CC countdowns, but it’s cool to have our own :D

^^take spaces out

This video provides the best insight into the application process from the people actually reading the applications.

Eric Furda said he hates resumes! CRAP

^Haha don’t worry about it! I misspelled a couple words on my Common App and I was so upset when I realized it, but there’s nothing I can do now… so I’m not going to worry. :)

@maani9422
I KNOWWW

when I saw that part I was like. DANG
but our guidance counselor was like “you MUST put in a resume”

grrrr. Mr. Furda, deal with it.

The only reason I put it in was because of random awards that didn’t really have a spot on the common app sections. So I attached it to the additional materials section but highlighted the stuff I wanted them to notice in pink haha

Hopefully it’s not as annoying when I’m sorta telling them where to look?

@aodicean
I’m obsessed with this webcast.

Agreed! I wish I’d seen this before.
Why do I have a feeling all of us Penn CCers are watching this video right now… hahhahaha
