^^ because I am

Hahahhaa! Very true.

Other supplemental essays for college < this webcast

Haha I avoided college essays all day today too!

I had a dream last night that Penn decided “well, if people are applying Early Decision, that means they’re passionate about our school, we can let them all in”
… then reality set back in

hahahahhahaha i’ve been watching this video for like 1 hour now!! SO GOOD!!!

The Williams College man is extremely deep and introspective. His voice is lulling me to sleep. Furda’s the man, though.

I had a dream(nightmare) I got deferred.

Does Dean Furda actually look at apps? Does he serve on committee? What does he do

I second maani’s question!

I have a question too, though.
Is it normal to have a “college counselor”?
They keep mentioning them in this webcast.

(Sorry for straying from the topic of this thread)

1hr 12 mins into the video, I officially have no life.

@Empaige, everyone in my school has a guidance counselor, who works as a student’s college counselor as well.

Some people hire college counselors…and pay them excessive amounts of money…but I never did. My computer served as my college counselor.

I think “college counselor” is the same as your guidance counselor at school. I attend a public school and also don’t have any money to spend on a private counselor, so I just take in the advice of my schools’s guidance counselor (who has been helpful).

I attached an Activities Chart, but was very “Hemmingway” like in the Common App Activities Chart…do you think that will suffice? (PS. You’ll only get the “Hemmingway” like part if you watch the WSJN video, haha.)

Yeah, okay, my guidance counselor is a college counselor pro tempore, I guess.
Thanks guys
And yeah, 59 minutes in… I even took my laptop with me to eat dinner.

Dang, for those of you that have finished the video, Eric Furda’s red flag basically said your why penn essay better be dam good.

@hardworking21
Well then I guess we’ll all get the “Hemingway” reference, because we’re all crazy and have been watching it! And I certainly think it’s fine! I think he was being blunt, especially because he won’t even be looking at yours.
Digging the “21” by the way.

Ps. I love the facebook section. “All the drugs and alcohol they’ll consume at our institution.”

Are they expecting us to take all of the APs our school offers?

Darn it! I cut it off half-way through because my internet was slowing down too much. Anyone kind enough to sum up the key points, at least, the Penn related ones? Anything specific as to “Why Penn” or Facebook?

@EmPaige21: 21 is the number of the gods…and goddesses :)

@maani9422: No. Many have been accepted by taking a good amount, but not all. I guess, you should take as many as possible without going crazy. Aka 0 or 1 AP a year may not cut it…especially if your school doesn’t limit APs. And, I think if another applicant from your school has taken 13 APs and you took 5…there’s a difference, obviously. All in context!

Finished it… hardworking, there’s more about making the why penn specific to penn, and penn only. It’s more of the same speech we’ve all heard before. Regarding facebook, they won’t search for your name but if it comes up that you are doing something that the university doesn’t like and they somehow find out, they will take action. As a tip to anyone writing the Why Penn essay, even though everyone who applied ED already wrote theirs, include something about toast. If you don’t know why toast is important to Penn, read this [Penn Alumni: Penn Traditions](http://www.alumni.upenn.edu/penntraditions/trads/toast.html). Next year when I write my Why Penn essay I plan to include something about the toast throwing, now that’s being specific to Penn.

Hard worker- I’m still finishing the video, but I can fill you in if no one else does before I’m finished. Furda was mum on the facebook ordeal. The gist for all of the schools, though, was that they don’t really check internet sites.

Guys, we’re bonding!

@dfree- I used the toast-throwing.
I saw it in person, and cried of overwhelming laughter.
