Who's applying to FAMU

@Henry… mhmmm… If you say so… I was worried.

@cdamaes: What made me confident was that a girl I know got in with a 17 on the ACT and a significantly lower GPA than mine.

@henry that had the opposite affect on me I was like wth how are all these people getting in and im not…

^^Yea,FAMU is slow at processing applications. The bad thing is that I can’t even log into FAMmail. FAMU is years behind in technology…

did anyone go to the Spring preview, if so how was it?
and yea the mail is a mess.

@AliSans: Some of my friends went…I’ll ask them how it was.

@henry they changed the whole fammail thing… i ment to call the today. shoot!

Last year I was accepted to FAMU, I did not go because they accepted wayyyyyy too many freshmen and did not have any housing left. By the time they sent my money order back for me to get an apartment for me to go there, it was a week before school started so I stayed at college at home and saved a whole lot of money.
I went to FAMU last spring break and that is a huuuuuuuuge school. It is the biggest HBCU in the U.S. if you did not already know. Me and my friends were there for about three days. The only con about it is that they have this orange stuff on the ground by the palmettos. (Like the stuff from a kick ball field.) I did not have any issues with my admissions last year, but this year they were a mess. I had to call so many times to get through, and when I did they claimed they did not have certain things. I think they just get things and do not look at it. I think that because they had all my stuff, but did not put everything together for me to get admitted. This happened on a thursday and I was admitted that tuesday. SHAME! Plus, they CLAIM they did not get two of my brothers money orders, so he had to send a third one. That is 90 dollars.
I advise anyone who got accepted, send your housing in EARLY! Send it in now. I sent mine the day after I got accepted. You will not find out your assignment until the end of june, early july. Do not wait until the deadline, cause you may end up like me this year.
One last con, is they have problems with their financial aid. So if you really are ready for that issue, then go. All of my friends are there and they love it. Mainly because they party all the time, but I love that school and it will be a great experience.

RATTLERS!!!

Thanks for your input …
I didn’t think the school would be big though…

ok i kno i’m late to the forum but i also applied to FAM and have yet to receive my acceptance letter. In january i was accepted to Clark which was my first choice but it’s soo expensive i am considerinq aqain. i have a 2.6uw/3.6w and a 1560 on the SAT’s i was sure i would qet in but everyone seems to be qettinq their acceptance letters but me so im thinkinq my sucky qpa may have sunk me -_-

i applied in feb. and havent heard anything back from them…

@ Kiyla91 and Hongthi: did you call FAMU and ask them if they received your transcript, test scores, ect?
Because if you read the previous posts Famu is known to lose those things. So my advice to you is to make sure they still have your stuff, because you never know if they actually received (or lost) it. So call them and ask!
Good Luck!

I just got accepted to famu after waiting 5 months lolllll I just got it in the mail April 6 2010

Yea I did have to call them at first the lady said I wasn’t even in the system then I gave her my social and she found me and told me I was accepted she was really rude by the way my advice is to keep calling them and stay on top of all your paper work

I was lucky enough to not have any of my stuff lost but the wait was killer you gotta call the school though for EVERYTHING the campus is huge, a little older but I liked it and it’s definitely a black college it was nice to be around so many African American students :)

I think if you get the chance absolutely visit it’s cool to know where you’ll be in a few months and not be totally lost
anyone like me coming from Tampa woot! lol

@hongthi: I sent my stuff in on Jan 5 and got my acceptance letter on March 25. It takes a while at FAMU. The worst thing about FAMU is that you can’t check anything online; you always have to call. FAMU is "old-school,"so they like to do everything by paper.

These post are hilarous, but are so true! Also, just in case I missed it, WHATEVER IT IS THAT YOU SEND IN, KEEP COPIES AND RECORDS OF EVERYTHING (and even during your ENTIRE time at FAMU)!!! I will be graduating in Fall of this year, and I wouldn’t trade FAMU for nothing in the WORLD! You may know a lot of people who go to FAMU, but its not about that, it about how many poeple do you know have survived FAMU and became a better individual…

I am SOOO FRUSTRATED!!!
I never got any information on the FAMmail…and i called the help desk and they gave me my username and password but the system is not logging me in!!! I haven’t even gotten any financial aid info from FAMU…and they told me i was supposed to already!

ummm nevermind I got the problem fixed…surprisingly

@cdames: Hey cdames, I’m going through the same dilemma you are or were in, I’m trying to decide whether to go to UF or FAMU for pharmacy school. FAMU gave me their full tuition and room and board scholarship over 4 years and UF gave me their presidential scholarship which is $8,000 over 4 years. I can afford either school because I have bright futures and florida prepaid and I feel more comfortable with the atmosphere @ UF but with FAMU I’m pretty much guaranteed acceptance into their PharmD program; however, college is 20% academic, 80% social and after visiting both campuses multiple times, I just seem to like everything about UF better than FAMU in terms of life outside the classroom (the only thing I like about FAMU is the pharmacy school). At UF I have to achieve a high PCAT and GPA and compete with many qualified and competitive applicants for a chance at a spot in their pharmacy school while at FAMU I’m in if I have at least a 2.75 GPA at the end of my first two years and do well on my interview because they do not require PCAT. The great thing about UF, however, is that there is so much more to do if I woke up one morning and said I don’t want to be a pharmacist anymore. I wouldn’t have even applied to FAMU if they didn’t have the 0-6 pharmacy program. Also, I am not 100% sure I want to be a pharmacist. I’m about 75-80% but that’s only from talking to pharmacists and not actually shadowing one. But then again, I do not want to go to UF and realize that pharmacy is my true passion and not be able to get into their college of pharmacy while I could have been in at FAMU all along. I’ve always wanted to be a Gator, as you can tell by the screen name, but FAMU’s pharmacy program is tempting, how did you decide? Other people can give me feedback as well.
