Who's Applying to the LAC circus?

Seems to me that many of this year's CC Transfer-ers are shooting for mostly universities. who out there is trying for some LACs and why? where do you want to go?

I'm trying for a few universities and also Reed College and Vassar College. I think I would enjoy Vassar for so many reasons. Fairly close to NY (which I love more than home, I feel at peace every time I visit), a tough but not impossible amount of work. Good grad placement, amazing looking campus, and high grad school numbers. there are other reasons but I'll save them for my essay.
Reed I am still iffy about but I figure "why not when I can?". I really appreciate the individualism of the school. the students, teachers, classes, and more seem to cater a lot to the individual and it seems like a great place.

My College grades right now are good, although this semester I might get myself a B or dare I say it...a C...no, that can't happen...anyway... and I feel as though I have my hand in alot of facets and my individualism and motivation will pay off.

so anyway, where are you trying for and why?

My list changes every week or so, but here it is:
Fullerton
USC

I've also been told I should apply to Wellesley. I was a little surprised by that because it's ranked so high, but I am doing really well in school, so I suppose it will be alright to apply. I was planning on applying to Whitman (I live two blocks away), but because it's so small I don't feel like it really offers me enough. That's how I feel about LACs in general, but Wellesley has the cross-registration program with MIT, so that opens a few doors, doesn't it?

Reed's a pretty tough school, but the competitiveness is what makes it so good!

here is my list so far:
skidmore
conn college
wesleyan (possibly)
vassar (possibly)
bard

anyone else have suggestions?

what are you looking for in a college?

im looking for a small liberal arts college where kids are serious about their work, but not ultra intense. i would like a school that is near new york city, but i dont need to be in a city area, and i would really like a campus.

Milkdud: you might want to consider adding Sarah Lawrence to your list. I'm not getting enough feeling from Adam to make that suggestion.

I'm a male. and what do you mean not enough feeling?

sorry, I'm a bit confused with your wording.

Milkdud--check out Bennington, more like Vassar and Bard, not as preppy as Conn. Definitely a campus, and people take their work very seriously but are not overly intense or competitive.

Umm, over 25% of Sarah Lawrence students are male but I'm pretty sure your reference was to Wellesley.

As for "feeling", I got a better idea of what Milkdud was looking for from from his/her list of schools than I did from your description. That's all I meant. IMO, anyone looking at Vassar and Bard should be considering SLC since it does what the others only imply. SLC has no prerequisites, no grades, accepts no SATs, has all conference courses, students interview professors prior to registration, and advisers (Dons) are in close contact with students on a far more personal basis than any of the other schools mentioned. If catering to the individual is really important, I don't think any LAC can hold a candle to SLC.

I did not know that SLC accepted male students. I didn't bother giving any research because of my ignorance.

the LACs that I had on my "do more research" list were Bard, Reed, Vassar, Swarthmore, Haverford, Bowdoin, and Oberlin.

you may want to check out Oberlin. it is in Ohio so it's not so close to new york city but has a good reputation and seems to be a great school. I only chose not to include it because I have 6 schools I am sending apps to and I think one more would tip the scale (time/money wise)

im not really looking to go that far, im actually trying to get closer to home next year because i dont like being far away now. but thanks for the advice. right now im really liking wesleyan but im not too sure i stand a chance.

Being a guy might even be a hook at SLC. Honestly, it doesn't look anymore like a "girl school" than Bard does, and I was at both last weekend. Each is fabulous in its own way.

I was accepted at Vassar for the first co-ed class way back when, but I thought that would be a little intimidating. Now all-female schools look odd to me. And they did to my daughters, too!

Well know I wish I would have known, I would have surely put in more research and possibly applied but I'm so stacked school work and transfer work wise that I can't just tack another school on. besides, Vassar seems like the ideal school for me in almost every aspect so I should focus on trying to get a nice accepted letter.

The only Liberal Arts College I'll be applying to is Pomona College. Only 14 transfers are accepted on average every year. Eeek! But it's a beautiful school with great facilities, staff, people and focus.
