Hey guys! Just wondering who on CC is for sure going to Tulane next fall so we can connect or talk about when we're visiting (honors weekend March 20-21st anyone? ;D).

I'm pretty damn excited. I'm from Maine, a Neuro major and a Pre-Med hopeful, and I'm the first person in the history my school to go to Tulane! I'm 98% sure I'm going to Tulane unless I get full tuition from Ohio State (which is NOT likely).

Hey avenlea, I’m a 14’-er, but I’m also a neuro major!! Let me know if you have any questions about the neuro major, finding a research position, being a pre-med or anything in general

Congrats on Tulane!! the neuro program is AMAZING!!!

Definitely go to Tulane! Not only is it a great education but it also teaches you a ton about LIFE. It’s a real life type of school, you won’t just learn a lot in class but also learn a lot of practical skills. GREAT SCHOOL I highly recommend

I’m going March 20-21st When are you going avenlea?
Hopefully it won’t be as hot in March as it was in September (I was dying from the heat the last time I visited lol).

It is rarely that hot in March, while September is often still quite warm. Usually the real heat doesn’t return until the last days of April, just in time for finals.

Rainbowrose - I see the lol at the end of your post, but I still wonder. What criteria are you using in making your decision? Because I have to say, and you will just have to trust me that I would say this even if Tulane were ranked higher than any other school to which you were applying, that the USNWR rankings (or any other ranking system) is really not the way to decide on which school to attend.

@fallenchemist, I haven’t visited Tulane yet but my parents probably won’t even let me visit if I get accepted to enough higher ranked schools considering there are only 4 weekends in April before I have to make my decision and they don’t want me going in March for some reason (I think mostly to avoid the hassle of going there unless it’s necessary).

I’m not really expecting much from the other schools anyway though. I feel like Tulane would be a better experience since I’d be at the head of the pack… rather than just mediocre at an Ivy (or other higher ranked school). The 25k/year scholarship is also very attractive as well considering I won’t get FA anywhere.

rainbowrose - I understand. USNWR really has created a terrible situation. Or if not created, certainly amplified it to a huge degree. Such a shame. Anyway, I bet you will get into at least a couple of the schools you are talking about. I wish you the best of luck.

@rouxbo, i’m going then too! i’m sooo excited haha, i want to pay my deposit now but my parents are still a tad uncomfortable about my going to school in NOLA so i’d like them to see it for themselves. :P

avenlea - just remind them it is 62% female in freshman class. My D’s year (sophomore) is about 58%. We can’t all be wrong about letting our D’s go to school in New Orleans.

@avenlea :] yay fun… maybe I’ll see you there~
I’m also trying to convince my mum to let me go to Tulane… she really wants me to stay instate however

thanks @fallenchemist
my parents are definitely letting me go to honors weekend now though! my mom also said “wouldn’t it be funny if after all of this, you decided to go to Tulane?” (referring to the fact that I spent hours upon hours on applications AFTER I got accepted).

Well, it makes sense to see what else is out there for you and have choices, in most cases. But that’s great, about Honors Weekend. Is she going with you? It would be even better if one or both of your parents could see the campus and area also. It would help put their minds at ease.

Indeed, before I really visited Tulane’s campus, I thought I was for sure going to a particular “higher-ranked” school. It wasn’t until I took the campus tour that I realized what a great place to learn Tulane really is. Of course, the fact that Tulane is in-state for me is also a big factor.
