I graduated from my cc with a 3.5 GPA, and had absolutely no problems earning good grades. Now that I’m here, the professors seem detached, and I haven’t been doing as well as I had hoped. I haven’t failed anything, but still, haven’t been doing as amazing as I wanted. I have no idea if it’s just me, but I’m having a rough time
Why would you expect to do amazing at UCLA with a 3.5 at CC? UCLA should be much harder. You will probably do better as you adjust.
“Hard time” is a relative thing (I.e. What is your GPA in UCLA now?). My daughter also has an extremely hard time to keep her GPA close to 4.00 as she used to have back in high school (though she is a Regents scholar in UCLA)!
What community college advocates do not want people to know is that the workload and time demands at four year universities are generally much greater than at community colleges. CA has among the best community colleges in the country but they are not at the level of a UCLA.
I concur with @TomSrOfBoston although a blanket statement that CC’s are easier than a 4 year is very dependent upon which CC’s. From my son’s experience (only took some summer session courses at a CA CCC while home from UCD), he found the CCC courses even condensed versions in a 6-8 week session much less rigorous than his courses at UCD. My other son has 2 friends that recently transferred from a local CC to a UC and are finding the course material and grade expectations are highly competitive and increasingly more difficult than the CCC’s.
UCLA is harder than community college.
